Director Of Engineering
Richmond, Australia, Au
As 2IC for engineering at 99designs I was responsible for near term engineering planning, hiring, training, and all the tech day to day that frees up our CTO's headspace to be looking further down the road.Last I checked the our mission statement was that "we connect the world with great graphic designers". We're headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Melbourne, Berlin, Paris, London and Rio de Janeiro. Founded in Melbourne in 2008, the company opened its U.S. office in 2010 and in 2011 secured $35 million in Series A funding from Accel Partners (Facebook, Groupon, Dropbox) and a handful of top angel investors. As of April 2015, 99designs has facilitated 390,000+ crowdsourced design contests for small businesses, startups, agencies, non-profits and other organisations, and has paid out $110 million to our community of 1,000,000+ graphic designers around the world. Customers and designers can access localised versions of 99designs in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Japanese. From a technology perspective 99designs started out with a classic LAMP monolith, which we've been gradually decomposing into smaller codebases and systems written in PHP, Ruby, and Go. We've been on AWS since it was in pre-release. Most of our systems are developed in and production run with Docker.
