I founded Hecate to create tools to help software engineering managers stay on top of all the code changes happening in their org.I didn't hit product/market fit before cash became a problem. Kept it running as a side project but on hiatus for now.

Supported Tim & Keith through the early days of the business. Advised on the original fundraise (then participated in the round) and beyond.Helped with hiring, general strategy, and in a couple of situations even carried the pager for server outages.Still a very happy investor, but stepped down from advisory board when parenting (and my own startup) ate all my time.

Following the CTO's departure I took over as head of technology. As a member of the executive team helped guide business and technical strategy while continuing to supervise and mentor the engineering management group.

As 2IC for engineering at 99designs I was responsible for near term engineering planning, hiring, training, and all the tech day to day that frees up our CTO's headspace to be looking further down the road.Last I checked the our mission statement was that "we connect the world with great graphic designers". We're headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Melbourne, Berlin, Paris, London and Rio de Janeiro. Founded in Melbourne in 2008, the company opened its U.S. office in 2010 and in 2011 secured $35 million in Series A funding from Accel Partners (Facebook, Groupon, Dropbox) and a handful of top angel investors.As of April 2015, 99designs has facilitated 390,000+ crowdsourced design contests for small businesses, startups, agencies, non-profits and other organisations, and has paid out $110 million to our community of 1,000,000+ graphic designers around the world. Customers and designers can access localised versions of 99designs in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Japanese.From a technology perspective 99designs started out with a classic LAMP monolith, which we've been gradually decomposing into smaller codebases and systems written in PHP, Ruby, and Go. We've been on AWS since it was in pre-release. Most of our systems are developed in and production run with Docker.

Codename is the brand under which the Goodfilms product team has been taking on consulting/project work unrelated to the Goodfilms product (a necessary evil in startup-land sometimes when revenue doesn't quite match up to expenses).We've been taking on projects that range from the design and build of "brochure" style marketing sites, to full front end builds for new products, and providing ops consulting to local startups.

I'm one third of the team behind the social network for movie ratings and reviews Goodfilms. As a small team with a big problem to solve, it was all hands on all jobs - even the non-technical ones like marketing, accounting, and sweeping the office floor.On the tech front I worked on a bit of everything from the front end (Haml, Coffeescript, AngularJS), through the backend (Ruby on Rails 3.2 and Postgresql), all the way down to the infrastructure (Ubuntu 12.04 on Rackspace Cloud, with fully automated configuration management).Insomuch that anyone actually owned specific parts of the codebase, my main responsibilities were hosting/infrastructure, our Facebook and Netflix integration, and our movie analytics product (built with Sinatra and d3.js)

I managed a team of 10 developers who handled all product development and operations of the Envato marketplaces (the most popular of which is ThemeForest) which is one of the highest traffic Ruby on Rails applications in the world.My responsibilities included providing technical leadership, managing budgets for both staff and hosting/infrastructure, recruiting and retaining staff, helping prioritise the product pipeline, and finally (when there was a spare minute), contribute code to the marketplace application.

My first year at Envato was spent as one of three developers taking care of the one marketplace we had - FlashDen.The big achievement of this period was the project to essentially white-label the FlashDen codebase to allow us to move into adjacent markets. The first marketplace to be launched from that project was AudioJungle, followed by ThemeForest, and then things started growing pretty quickly from there.

Through 2007 and 2008 I worked as a freelance .NET and Ruby developer in Australia and Norway.The most notable project I worked on in that period was to help launch thevine.com.au

I worked as a .NET developer on the MyCareer team at the Melbourne Fairfax Digital office.Some of the projects worked on include: overhauling the full text search system used on the jobseeker portion of the site, improving the system that imported job ads from The Age and Sydney Morning Herald each week, and the addition of "featured" job ads to the site.

Was a bona fide headset hottie in IT support across all of Deakin's campuses and remote learning students.
