Current
Research Systems Programmer/Analyst I
Bioinformatics Programmer/Analyst Iii
I work as a programmer/analyst and data modeler to develop tools for large-scale data commons. I use primarily open source tools to build applications for open science.
Data Engineer
As the Data Engineer for the regenerative medicine lab at United Therapeutics, my role comprises duties typical of both Data Engineers and Data Scientists. I am primarily responsible for creating and organizing data infrastructure in lab - I create custom Python scripts to generate new streams of data from instruments in the lab (such as ventilators and basic sensors) and am the lead administrator for the IDBS ELN implementation, creating and managing a 2000+ term database. I leverage my statistical programming skill set (primarily in R, also MS Excel) to perform data analyses and visualizations requested by the research scientists at United Therapeutics. I also perform bioinformatics analyses (typically of RNA-Seq data) using R, Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, and other bioinformatics tools (see patents, publications).
Research Associate I/Ii
In this position I worked on various projects supporting whole organ lung tissue engineering - complete decellularization or porcine left lung and subsequent recellularization with human cells, intended as a transplant for a PAH patient population. I started shortly after the lab became operational in 2014 as an RA I, beginning with decellularization process development and automation (see patents) and eventually moved to lung airway recellularization strategy development as an RA II. I then transitioned to data engineer role based on lab needs and previously-demonstrated competencies.
Technical Services Analyst
I worked closely with small technical analyst teams (1-5 people) and clinicians to help configure and support Epic software at hospitals and clinics around the country. This role necessitated a deep understanding of the database structure upon which Epic operates, but also demands the ability to translate this information to those who speak primarily in clinical contexts. I worked on the oncology application, supporting the software which accommodates oncology-specific workflows and documentation within Epic.
Graduate Student Research Assistant
Alongside another graduate student, I developed and performed biocompatibility tests on polyurethane-based materials for small-diameter vascular graft applications. Cell culture and sterile technique, polymer synthesis, PCR, numerous assays, and partial tutelage of an undergraduate student comprise the primary job duties.
Biomaterials Co-Op
7-month co-op position at Biomet, working on assay development, lean manufacturing, and development of a LabVIEW-controlled machine vision application for measuring fatigue crack propagation in polyethylene specimens.
Engineering Intern
As an intern for a small start-up company (acquired by Kensey Nash, since acquired by DSM), I worked on cytotoxicity and degradation testing of polymeric medical adhesives for hernia repairs. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for these experiments were created as part of the quality control system.
