John was appointed by the Commonwealth Minister of Health as Deputy Chair of APMAIF. APMAIF is an independent panel which advises the Commonwealth Government on industry compliance with the MAIF Agreement and the World Health Organisation Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes.

The Trust administers an investment fund, the income from which supports hundreds of thousands of dollars of donations to community organisations and strategic projects each year. John served on both the general Board and the Finance and Investment Committee of the Trust.

John joined Cosoff Cudmore & Partners as a partner in 1999. In 2001, Cosoff Cudmore & Partners merged with Knox & Hargrave, one of Adelaide's oldest legal firms, to form Cosoff Cudmore Knox. During his time at Cosoff Cudmore Knox, John headed one of the firm's transaction's practices, specialising in corporate advice, commercial advice and M&A transactions.

John joined Clelands Lawyers upon admisison to practice in 1990. He was subsequently admitted to partnerhip in 1996. During his time at Clelands, John practised in: corporate advice and transactions; commercial advice and transactions; and corporate and commercial disputes.
