Functional manager role where management responsibilities (~50% of time) include daily management and task coordination of three direct reports, support development of resourcing, scheduling, and budgets, development of engineering procedures, and interviewing for new engineering hires. The engineering responsibilities (~50% of the time) include concept and system level engineering, support development of project specifications, and review of all mechanical systems.Engineering efforts involve machine design including component selection, wear/life calculations, tolerancing, vibration assessments, and strength assessments. Structural design includes design the steel hull of the buoy involving significant structural FEA assessments, fatigue (based on DNV C203), slam events, machine and electronics mounting. All CAD modeling work is conducted in Solidworks and FEA is conducted in Ansys.

Work with a small team in developing and designing buoys that generate electricity from ocean waves.Primary work focuses on machine design, structural engineering, and system integration.Structural engineering effort includes leading most steel hull designs of the various projects. Efforts include working with the hydrodynamicists to develop external loading to the structure. Designing the structure to meet life requirements by assessing peak loading as well as fatigue based on DNV C203. Machine design effort includes design, analysis, and system integration of various subsystems of the power conversion system. Specific designs include a kit motor housing, linear caliper brake system, linear guides system, and ball screw actuator.Additional responsibilities include designing a cooling system (thermal load and P&ID), packaging/mounting electronics, engineering drawings, and test plan/execution for design validation.

Design and validate the structure for power generating buoys. Skills utilized include solid modeling, FEA (Cosmos & Ansys), hand calculations to validate FEA. Additionally, thermal and fluid analyzes are required.
