There are countless ways we can make our society and our world a better place, but virtually all of them are rooted in improving education. Whether in classrooms or on a mobile device, young or old, novices or experts, life is full of opportunity both to improve learning and to improve our understanding about what we already know and what we could use more help with. I am passionate about exploring the strengths and failings of emerging technologies and techniques to improve on traditional education and assessment was well as to find the best ways to fill the newly opening niches of informal, ubiquitous learning opportunities afforded by our mobile, connected world.I favor an approach guided by the findings of the education research community, the experiences of instructors and experts, and the ever evolving best practices known to technology innovators. As strongly as I support public education and the classroom experience, I am very excited about opportunities for informal, self-paced and self-directed, ubiquitous, and lifelong learning opportunities afforded by emerging technologies and attitudes.What I have to offer includes cutting edge software engineering skills, well over a decade of experience in educational technology research, a scientific background that informs my work in STEM education, and a strong personal passion for the art of storytelling, explanation, and learning. While I am principally a software developer, I also excel as an interdisciplinary communicator, able to translate between technologists, subject matter experts, business, and most of all learners and instructors.
