Modelling & Simulation John Brennan received his B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1989 and his M.Sc in Defence Simulation and Modelling from Cranfield University (UK) in 2000. John has 20 years experience in the Canadian Forces as a navigator, project officer and educator; he also has two years experience as a lecturer in higher education at Cranfield University, UK. John is currently the manager of Modelling and Simulation at CAE Professional Services. John has worked with research, analysis and design teams to develop and evaluate solutions in a variety of educational and operational situations. He has been directly involved in the development and management of several defence-related educational solutions as well as the design, execution and reporting of evaluations for front-line military equipment. Some project examples are provided below:Account Management of DND Canada's Canadian Advanced Synthetic Environment (CASE) Contract providing modelling, simulation and synthetic environment products and services through a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract across several years.Co-Chair of NATO MSG-062 Technical Activity on the use of modeling and simulation to enhance and advance the concept of NATO Network Enabled Capability (NATO NEC).Conducted an evaluation and refinement of the preliminary concept for an Integrated Executable Architecture for Defence Research and Development Canada.Conducted survey and suitability assessment study of synthetic environments for the Executable Architecture Applied Research Project for Defence Research and Development Canada.

Also involved the conduct of private venture contract and funded research in the M&S filed. This position involved managing test & evaluation projects for the Canadian Air Force - this included planning, executing, analysing and reporting on operational and tactical evaluations for the CP140 fleet of aircraft.

I did my operational flying at this unit, where I progressed from junior navigator through tactical navigator and eventually Crew Commander of a Maritime Patrol Crew. I also performed the duties of squadron navigator/communicator training officer for a year. During my final year, my crew was selected to represent the squadron in the annual anti-submarine warfare competition.

Conduct operational activities and duties commensurate with an operational maritime navigator and crew commander. Specific activities included:Mission and flight planning, including cooperative, combined and coalition exercises and operations,Safe navigation of the aircraft and coordination of multiple communication networks before and during mission execution,Overseeing and managing the training of all new navigators as they arrived on squadron,Tactical resource planning, allocation and use before and during mission execution,Crew coordination for successful mission execution,Lead a maritime patrol crew of 13 individuals in day-to-day activities and mission conduct; this included ensuring the personal well being and professional development needs and goals of all crew members were met.
