John is Founder and CEO of Windjammer Technologies, a Silicon Valley start-up. Windjammer's product is a plug-in accelerator for AWS EMR 6.x, GCP Dataproc 2.x, and Apache Spark 3.x that transparently accelerates query performance by 3x and cuts costs to 1/3rd. Prior to starting Windjammer, John was Vice President/Senior Fellow at SanDisk Corporation and Founder/Chairman of Schooner Information Technologies (acquired by SanDisk), where he led explorations and creation of flash-optimized databases. Prior to Schooner, John was director of Computer System Research at Sun Microsystems Laboratories where he led research teams in multi-core processors, scale-out architectures, and advanced high-performance computer systems. Prior to Sun, John was director of Computer Systems R&D at Hewlett Packard and a key member of the core team which put HP into the commercial computer business. John holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA, Masters in Computer Science from Stanford University, and Masters in Mathematics from UCLA.
