I am, mostly, a self-taught developer who thoroughly enjoys exploring new tech. Coding for hours on end is a joy but only with the purpose of launching. Launching new internal or client projects/products makes it all worth it.* Co-authored "ColdFusion Web Application Construction Kit: ColdFusion 8" by Peachpit* Co-authored "ColdFusion Web Application Construction Kit: ColdFusion 9" by Peachpit* Co-authored "Flex 4 in Action" by Manning* Tech editor for "Dreamweaver CS 4", "Dreamweaver CS 5" and "Dreamweaver CS 5.5" by O'reillySpecialtiesInfrastructure: Terraform, CloudFormation, custom tooling, Kubernetes, Fargate, BeanstalkMobile: React Native, Ionic, Objective-C/Swift/iOS, Java/Kotlin/Android, FlutterWeb Development: Dart, Ruby/Ruby on Rails, NodeJS, React, Angular, ColdFusion, Go (still learning), PHP, JavaDatabase: MySQL, MS SQL, PostgresqlMedia: Wowza, RTMP servers in general, custom media players

Chief Executive OfficerKatapult Media, Inc. Aug 2005 - PresentWe provide high-quality software development and management services for the web, desktop, multiple mobile platforms; including automating infrastructure and infrastructure management. -
Sr Manager, SreSavvymoney Dec 2022 - May 2024Dublin, California, UsThe infrastructure as a whole was a combination of Click-Ops and 3 automation approaches with a lack of documentation leading to uncertainty of updates. I led a significant initiative to restructure all infrastructure to code (Terraform through Cloud Posse Atmos) using AWS best practices. This structure paid off in spades when we decided to add a new group of accounts for data which we accomplished within a week which previously took 6 months on two different occasions and failed to realize that goal. All infrastructure used trunk-based deployment through Spacelift with RBAC for protected stages and Slack notifications for failures. This complete rewrite required migrating old accounts to new groups of accounts. We were able to migrate over 80 services and 7-9 databases from 3 prior stages using a combination of binlog replication, DynamoDB S3 export/import, and AWS DMS.There was also a massive hole in understanding a completely new AWS RBAC approach and the new deployment model. Within the first few weeks of joining I began weekly Office Hours where anyone could join to have problems reviewed and answered as well as train on the latest changes of what was happening. This created library of over 80 hours of training and aided in documenting not just the current state, but it provided a weekly status of changes and the general direction of specific initiatives. Videos are great to have yet take time to review so over 20 Confluence documents were created explaining the system with a full Lucid Chart documenting everything from AWS accounts, RBAC, networking patterns, migration plans, and more.We also attempted to move the engineering department to a better deployment strategy. We built a full CI/CD strategy with GitHub Actions allowing a simplified approach without using two trunks which created a lot of problems for engineers. This vision wasn’t fully realized, but we were able to utilize it to quickly provide CI/CD for Lambda, AWS Batch, and ECS services. -

Staff Software EngineerWorkiva Oct 2012 - Jan 2018Ames, Iowa, UsMy initial responsibility was working on a web product, built in Angular, coupled with wrapping it in Cordova for our initial iOS offering. I contributed to a major rewrite of the application to solidify the structure and handled the offline architecture along with sync capability.I was then transitioned to building 2.0 of the app with a smaller team of devs. We worked on the Android and iOS versions separately and built both natively with one specific Cordova view, versus the entire app being in Cordova. I was tasked with handling the majority of the native iOS work until the team grew.Currently, I'm working on a React-based web app, written in Dart with some JS interop, for an upcoming product while getting a chance to touch some Go and Java for our backend architecture. -

Technology Administrator/InstructorAcademy Of Excellence Aug 2001 - May 2003This was a great job. I worked with great people and had some great times with the students. It was interesting to see the kids learned how to use a computer to do great things like make/mix videos, play games (of course), learn, type professional letters, etc. Teaching the teachers was probably just as challenging and definitely as much fun. We had several trainings which I thoroughly enjoyed facilitating. For some it was a steep learning curve due to age, etc but they eventually caught on and found themselves using the computer all of the time.In 2003 I decided to go full time with JDEV Inc. so I left AOE after my 2nd full year. It was fun while it lasted but my time was up.
