I enjoy engaging with a recruiter having a difficult search. First step is to have an extensive conversation with the recruiter that involves determining what the REAL requirements are. This is a required step because most often Required skills stated on the job description turn out to only be Preferred Skills; Preferred Skills turn out to be Required Skills; and then there are Required Skills that are not stated anywhere in the job description. This process answers the question, "when do you want to know what the hiring manager is really looking for?"In writing the Boolean string for a position, I typically go through 3 to 15 iterations, testing the string at each iteration in a database before I feel the optimum string has been achieved.Then I take the selected string and write 5 variations of the string going from Tightest String (fewest results, but most accurate); then Tight, Medium, Loose, and Loosest (most results, but less accurate),That's my hand-off to the recruiter.. From that point going forward, it's up to the recruiter to take the process forward.I don't do strings for Google searches. • There were 100+ Raytheon recruiters world-wide. When they had a difficult time filling a position, it was escalated to the ten person SWAT Team to source hard-to-find candidates.• The SWAT Team established by Raytheon Corporate to recruit for difficult-to-fill technical defense positions across this conglomeration of six companies, a vast spectrum of positions that ranged from electronic warfare to missile guidance systems, to finding a Bio-Hazard Safety Engineer for Azerbaijan. Also recruited patent attorneys with BSEE.• As a sourcer I wrote Boolean search strings for all the recruiters on the SWAT Recruiting Team.• New reqs came to me first and followed the sequence of interviewing the hiring manager with the recruiter present. Then I would break down the technical req into terms that the recruiter could relate to. Next step was for me to write Boolean strings for the other recruiters. This was my full time job. We were very successful. • Taught classes on Boolean recruiting in various U.S. locations of Raytheon.• Designed specialized Applicant Tracking System just for the SWAT Team. I wrote the program for the applicant tracking system consisting of approx 4000 lines of Excel Visual Basic code.
