Principal Engineer - Data Center And AiIntel Corporation 1995 - PresentSanta Clara, California, UsA system manageability architect at Intel. I represent Intel at several manageability standards organizations. I was the technology architect for Intel(R) Node Manager.Started at Intel managing the test development, validation, tech pubs, and lab support groups for the TeraFLOPS supercomputer. As Intel expanded from desktops to servers and data centers, my experience in server and system manageability fulfilled needs in multiple organizations. -
Ocp Leadership (Member Of Steering Committee)Open Compute Project Foundation Aug 2017 - PresentAustin, Texas, UsJohn is a member of the OCP Steering Committee. The OCP community elected John to represent the Hardware Management Project. While holding this position, I have helped the HW Mgmt project establish Redfish as the common manageability interface for OCP platforms. The HW Mgmt project has formed subprojects for rack management, management modules (DC-SCM, RunBMC) and hardware fault management. -

Firmware Programmer To System Validation ManagerAuspex 1990 - 1995Started as a software/firmware developer at this Network Attached Storage (NAS) startup. Developed self-test and diagnostics firmware, also owned the board-level and system-level diagnostics. I was promoted as the company grew. By the time I left, I was managing and technical lead of firmware development, diagnostics development, validation, and Customer Problem Escalation groups. -
Firmware Programmer To Diagnostics ManagerSun Microsystems 1986 - 1990Palo Alto, Ca, UsStarted as a firmware/self-test/BIOS developer when Sun was just a startup. Participated in multiple board bring-ups of SPARC and Motorola platforms. Grew by leading new projects and efforts, which resulted in three promotions in four years. When I left, I managed the diagnostic development for firmware, board level and system level diagnostics. -
Systems EngineerLogicon 1984 - 1986System engineer for various battle management concepts for the Strategic Defense Initiative (aka Star Wars). Developed threat detection and target assignment algorithms for space-based battle management proposals. Responsible for the Advanced Systems Model Development Lab and its library of state estimation, analysis, launch, ballistic flight and orbital mechanics simulation programs. A large portion of battle manager design was solving a resource allocation problem within a rapidly changing threat environment. Presented technical analysis and proposals to the prime contractor (Martin Marietta) and the Defense Department. -
EngineerDouglas Aircraft Inc 1982 - 1984Part of a 2-man team which rewrote the company's aircraft takeoff simulation program in order to migrate it off expensive mainframes to PCs (during the early days of the PC). The company used the program to certify aircraft safety to the FAA and has failed Plan A (teaching aerodynamics to programmers). The simulation was used to certify that new aircraft could achieve flight even during adverse events during takeoff (e.g. engine failure). The migration involved decomposing existing programs to their fundamental aerodynamic equations and derivations, then reconstructing the software architecture. -
ResearcherJet Propulsion Laboratory Jun 1979 - Jun 1982Pasadena, Ca, UsMember of a team analyzing data from the Pioneer 12 orbiter insertion around Venus. Wrote programs to analyze the telemetry data of the Venusian upper atmosphere. My research was co-published in two research journals on findings, which included the discovery of a thermal dipole in northern Venusian hemisphere. I worked at JPL, while carrying a full class load at Caltech.
