Successfully established sustainable business improvement and transformation practices underpinning the edifice of capability and mindsets to drive and sustain transformation. Results to-date incorporate the implementation of key leadership rituals such as 1:1 Performance Dialogue; Leaders Working Menus; problem-solving framework building upon frontline 5 Whys; Kaizen; advanced Lean Six Sigma and teaching and coaching processes to support the build of a problem-solving culture at all levels. I achieved the Oyu Tolgoi Proud Award for my work in this area.

Successfully implemented business transformation and improvement strategies and systems to achieve greater than $250 million cost reduction. This moved the business within a 9-month timeframe from a quartile four business to quartile two. The sustainable systems introduced established the Yarwun Alumina Refinery as a continuing asset for Rio Tinto.In direct support of the General Manager, I effectively coached Senior Leaders and led the McKinsey Site Team to identify and implement improvement ideas to deliver elements of sustainability including safety and business systems. As the assigned leader of the site safety transformation direction, I established a comprehensive and broad leadership coaching system from shift start-up to within shift safety improvement and problem-solving systems. Business systems improvement includes systems for identification and implementation of improvement at pace, coaching a private equity mindset across all levels of leadership, and establishing Transformation Office processes to enhance the delivery of improvements.

Worked with McKinsey’s at each of the PacAl sites to establish a strong and independent business unit that would attract investment. Achieved transformational implementation at pace to accomplish a private equity mindset across all levels of leadership and establish transformation processes to ensure delivery of improvements.Developed the PacAl Business Model and component Operating Recipe and Asset Management Recipe to provide direction and clarity to the business.

Effectively developed site capability resulting in identification and adoption of waste reduction processes. Led the deployment of Lean across the Pacific Bauxite, Alumina and Aluminium sites delivering significant improvements across safety, production, quality and cost. My role had governance and coaching across all senior leadership to facilitate transformation and operational excellence.

As subject matter expert for Rio Tinto I developed and shared Lean Six Sigma and business best practices across all product groups of Rio Tinto including Pacific Bauxite, Alumina, and Aluminium sites. Working across the globe the role included the development and sharing of best practices across Rio Tinto business improvement product groups. Regular contribution and interaction were required from senior leadership (Rio Tinto Aluminium President and Senior Exco) to identify and deliver the value of synergies through Rio Tinto Aluminium and Alcan integration.
