About John Corliss

I have successfully managed engineering consulting firms, government programs, and non-profit organizations. I have helped these organizations and their clients enhance performance and become more sustainable. I invite you to connect with me here or reach out at corbiz@corlissnet.com. Let's build a sustainable future together.Inspired to continue my family's legacy of public and community service, I embarked on my college journey. Six years later, with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Systems Engineering and Master's degrees in Public Policy and Administration and Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), I emerged equipped to drive meaningful change.I started my career in U.S. national energy policy under the mentorship of a member of "The Limits to Growth" team, a seminal work in the sustainability movement. This experience reinforced my commitment to systems thinking and the importance of stakeholder buy-in and financial viability for technical solutions.I excel at identifying objectives and charting clear paths to achieve them. My accomplishments include creating new and transforming underperforming non-profit, government, and for-profit organizations. I have developed strategic plans for international aid programs and master plans for critical environmental and public health issues, spearheaded U.S. sustainable disaster recovery planning, and consulted on major development initiatives in Africa and the Caribbean. My projects leverage my technical, social, and economic training and skills to create lasting, positive impacts. As a sustainability advocate, I encourage Industrial and Systems Engineers to recognize that their process improvements help mitigate climate change and to take on leadership roles in sustainability initiatives.A Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, an author, and a public speaker, I serve on the boards of both non-profit and for-profit organizations and manage a LinkedIn group dedicated to fostering a global community committed to sustainability. I invite you to connect with me here or reach out at corbiz@corlissnet.com. Let's build a sustainable future together.

Sustainable Global Solutions, Llc Feb 2008 - Present
Leveraging Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) principles, I help small and midsize businesses (SMEs), government agencies, and nonprofits achieve sustainability and operational excellence. SMEs are the backbone of economic growth, driving innovation and job creation. Many entrepreneurs and their teams are committed to making a positive impact—whether through their products, services, or the way they operate. Yet the cost of sustainability planning, program implementation, and ESG and other types of reporting may seem too costly. For over a century, ISE professionals have helped organizations reduce waste, conserve water and energy, enhance quality, cut costs, and boost employee satisfaction. These performance-enhancing changes also align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that businesses not only thrive but also contribute to a more sustainable future.
