Principal
I was responsible for the underwriting and loan servicing strategies at MDP Capital. This involves conducting the on-site analysis, researching all parties involved, analyzing real estate trends compared to regional/statewide economic strength and a multitude of other due diligence requirements.
Insurance Agent
Operational Consultant
My introduction into the operational side of finance was by chance, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity. I believe that there is a better way to do anything so I'm continuosly looking for efficient ideas.I've developed strategic and financial plans, accounting systems and performance tracking metrics along with risk assesments of private commercial loan opportunities. You name it, I've probaly done it.
Collection Agent
First Credit Solutions (FCS) was a subsidiary of MidFirst Bank, an Oklahoma-based financial institution. I say “was” because all the assets and operations were purchased by Cavalry Investments in 2002. FCS was initially setup to compete with Commercial Financial Services, Inc (CFS) and was able to take advantage of the fallout from the shutdown of CFS. I was hired in from this fallout. FCS was a good company and I know plenty of people that enjoyed working there. I met all of my monthly goals and even exceeded them, but my direct supervisor and I did not see eye-to-eye on pretty much anything. After a few months, I decided on a credo that I would follow from that point forward: “Fail fast, fail often, repeat until successful.” I left FCS shortly thereafter.
Skip-Trace Collection Agent
A Bill Bartmann company. At one time Commercial Financial Services, Inc. (CFS) was the leading collector of nonperforming loans in the United States. I was hired almost a year before they shuttered their doors, so I was a little late to partake in the extravagant outings that the company was known for. I really enjoyed my time spent at this company. With a lot of help from a great manager (thanks, Steve), I expanded my negotiating skills and excelled in my section and then later, my division. My division had been created as an experiment… Most collection agencies would have a skip-tracer locate a debtor, confirm it, then drop it into a dialer queue and have the collectors use the dialer to further contact the debtors; my division had the skip-tracers locate the debtors, confirm it, then hot transfer to an individual collector to discuss payment of their debt. It worked perfectly and our division was in the top rankings in the company. We had individual collection goals that were set monthly and that had to be met. This made the working environment stressful, but also highly enjoyable as I enjoy meeting and exceeding goals. I was known for having good relationships with my clients (debtors I worked with) and expanding on those relationships when possible. For example, after connecting with the same attorney several times regarding clients that she represented, I developed a relationship with the attorney and would receive the first call if she had a client that had debt owed to Commercial Financial Resources. I met and exceeded my goals every month that I was on the collection floor. I did so well, that with my bonuses paid from exceeding my monthly goals, I had made my yearly (Jan - Dec) salary by the time that Commercial Financial Resources shuttered their doors in June 1999.
Mid-Market Sales
Pierce Leahy Corporation aka Pierce Leahy Archives, was a full-service provider of records management and related services and at one time, the largest such company in North America. They were acquired by Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM) in a merger valued at $1.1 billion in 2000.I learned a very valuable lesson at Pierce Leahy Archives (PLA). There is a DIFFERENCE between marketing and sales. When the recruiter called me about an open position at the company, he said that it would be unlike any position I previously had. He wasn’t exaggerating. From the interview process (4), to the training, to the sales process, PLA was a whole new experience for me.My responsibilities weren’t too much different from my previous position at Vault Management; I helped clients determine what records they needed to keep, and then stored those using whatever type of media my clients wanted to use, including paper, computer tapes, optical disks, microfilm, video tapes, and x-rays, etc. We also retrieved and delivered records and offered imaging, facilities management, and consulting services.
Operations/Sales
As a courier, I was responsible for driving,.. alot! Actually, my responsibilities varied, from transporting server backups to/from the client's site, to updating inventory, and even sales.Eventually I was promoted to Operations Manager/Sales Manager. This position was a stepping stone into everything else I've accomplished. I wasn't happy with the sales process, so I set out to reinvent it. I read every book I could get my hands on, from gimmicky point of purchase sales to the more advanced marketing and relationship selling. I then added lines of storage media and accessories to our company thereby substantially increasing our revenue and profit.
