John has 25+ years of experience in concept development, software architecture and hands-on software development. He is a co-founder and former CTO of award-winning app publisher Touchpress, where he led the technology team responsible for award-winning apps such as Disney Animated (Apple Best iPad App of 2013, Children’s BAFTA 2014), Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (FutureBook Best Reference Digital Book 2013), and the widely acclaimed children’s app, Barefoot World Atlas.In the heyday of interactive multimedia John worked closely with The Voyager Company on a number of their pioneering CD-ROM titles. Since then he has gone on to architect and deliver scores of successful interactive projects (DVD-ROM, web, installations, apps) on a variety of topics in science, literature and natural history. He has authored a book in the QuickTime Developer series.John believes strongly that software design deserves to take its place as creative endeavour, alongside other design disciplines, and that it is this intermingling and fusion of creativity from different spheres that is at the heart of truly innovative app design. He is a core member of the Touchpress team that was awarded the 2014 KAPi “Pioneering Team” Award.John graduated from Trinity College Dublin with first class honours in software and electronic engineering, and then completed a research masters. He is a keen naturalist, mountaineer and photographer.
