Global Citi Consumer Bank CTO leader – mandated to transform the crucial API ecosystem, API development techniques (domain-driven design, event-driven architecture), and processes of one of the world’s largest banks – covering North America, APAC, and Mexico. - Conducted an in-depth analysis of the current state and created a comprehensive global API Strategy - approved by all regional CIOs, Chief Architects, and Consumer Bank Global CIO and CTO. The strategy covers API platforms, API governance, target API landscape, open vs. private APIs, and API implementation (domain/event-driven).- Completely revamped the API governance and landscape model to move away from order-taking, project-centric engagement to domain-based, product-level direction. This will drastically improve the overall API and microservice reuse across the Consumer Bank, which was revealed to be quite low- Instituted a ‘runtime governance’ function after several production incidents with the API infrastructure. After analysis of the incidents, it was clear that the API technology was not being optimized or governed. Created a team to review product/plan/API structure within the tool, made recommendations to remediate, and staffed an ongoing oversight capability to ensure proper usage of the API platform- Created an education series describing a new architectural paradigm for API implementations leveraging Domain-Driven Design and Event-Driven Architecture. Many detailed presentations and tutorials were presented globally to raise awareness and knowledge, including the GCB Global Architecture Forum (chaired by global CTO), and all regional architecture forums. This has provided the necessary knowledge transfer, approval, and background to enable adoption in 2020.

• Technical leadership role in launching numerous high-profile credit card partnerships, including Apple Computer and Barnes&Noble Booksellers. Role included frequent high-level customer contact, overall accountability for successful launch, iteration and release planning, as well as technical direction, design and implementation. Led team and provided design/coding expertise to innovative web instant credit solution used by several major partners in purchase path applications and in retail stores.• Led team, designed, and implemented new Call Center Desktop application using .NET and Web Services technologies used by all customer contact areas of the bank (several hundred users). The application provides inbound/outbound telephony and case management integration, single sign-on to external systems, and an innovative dynamic workflow engine driven by Visio diagrams. The application was designed using several advanced design patterns to tame complexity in the implementation.

• Led team, designed, and implemented new customer self-service web site for Juniper using Apache Struts. Developed an innovative “pluggable function” architecture for site to provide quick addition of new web site functions. Site is also fully brandable/configurable by partner using a very flexible configuration subsystem. • Led Infrastructure project team to create next-generation infrastructure for all Juniper projects. New components designed and delivered include Service Locator, Service Factory, Branding Framework, Configuration Framework, Business Process Management, and Pseudo-MDB Framework. • Architected and coded Juniper Wireless functionality, which extended Juniper services to wireless/phone devices. • Re-designed and implemented entire Bill Pay portion of web site in a very short period of time under extreme pressure before launch of bank.
