About John Cook

Verification / Lab Automation Engineer: I evaluate highly complicated mixed signal DC-DC converters by creating test cards and writing test automation programs with Python. In 20 years of work, these are some of the most complicated digitally controlled parts I've worked on. Data is saved to SQLite database for analysis with Python or Excel. I also do my own schematic capture and PCB layout work with Altium or KiCAD.I pride myself on well laid out PCB projects and well documented and maintainable Python programs. There is no point in creating something that nobody can understand later on so I document everything.Associate Design Engineer:Built equipment for and performed a new IC correlation, which means you verify that every last little thing in the new IC meets or fails to meet design spec and compare with a test engineering report. I had to keep very detailed notes on everything I did and how I did it and report to the IC designer as I went. Battery Balancing project. I inherited a large, complex long term project that subjected lead-acid batteries to repeated loading to measure performance in a balanced vs unbalanced test configuration. It was written in Python and used multiple pieces of test equipment to charge, discharge, and measure the battery performance. I doubled it to two sets of batteries using an Arduino with Firmata library. Project recorded data into SQLite dB which was exported into graphs in Excel. Project ran for over a year.Madman Lighting Inc:Designer and Producer of simple to use electronic lighting kits for scale modelers. LED and fiber optics lighting expert. Master Model builder, winner of multiple awards for highly detailed scale models.Specialties: PCB layout, circuit simulation with LT Spice, design of moderately complex circuits, simple embedded programming in C, basic database (SQL) programming, soldering of tiny SMT components under microscope, electronics purchasing.KEYWORDS: Electrical Engineering, Schematic capture, Circuit Simulation, SPICE, PCB design, switch mode power supply, micro controller, embedded C, Python, programming, database, SQL, test equipment, meter, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, loop analyzer, LED driver.

Listed skills include Electronics, Pcb Design, Semiconductors, Test Equipment, and 22 others.
