Gunnery Sergeants serve as senior staff non-commissioned officers in military staff sections and headquarters and service companies/batteries at battalion/squadron level and typically have billet titles such as Personnel Administration Chief, Intelligence Chief, Operations Chief, Logistics Chief, Radio Chief, Motor Transport Chief, and Maintenance Chief.Gunnery Sergeants are commonly referred to by the informal abbreviation "gunny". This nickname, which is usually regarded as a title of both esteem and camaraderie, is generally acceptable for use in all but formal and ceremonial situations. Use of the term by lower-ranking personnel, however, remains at the gunnery sergeant's discretion.

EORs assist commanders in establishing complaint procedures, reviewing complaints, assessing the command climate, and identifying and conducting equal opportunity training. EORs may assist the commanding officer in the maintenance and submission of required reports, in addition to conducting a review of command policy and action utilizing the Inspector General checklist. EORs may also be designated to conduct periodic reviews of the command's discrimination/sexual harassment complaint process. EORs do not function as advocates for complainants and should not under normal circumstances conduct inquiries or investigations, but rather provide a source of information to both the complainant and the commander. EORs are also points of contact for the local commands to request materials from the TIR Library managed by the nearest EOA. EORs shall provide EO training to all unit personnel and coordinate the training of additional instructors, if necessary. They will ensure that all annual EO training is accomplished.

Lead in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum for the Electronics Maintenance Technician Course that provides advanced maintenance concepts on common communication equipment/systems utilized throughout the Marine Corps. Ground communications organizational repairers are trained to perform organizational level maintenance on ground common radio equipment, ground common telephone equipment, switchboards, peripheral devices, and related equipment used by ground and aviation forces. They are also trained to troubleshoot communications systems to ensure reliable service to users. Typical duties include organizational level repairs and alignments to ground common radio and telephone equipment, antenna repairs, requisitioning of parts, completing equipment repairs orders, and providing technical assistance during the installation of ground communications systems.

The telephone technician MOS and its related skill designator identify Marines who repair telephones, switchboards, and related equipment. In the NCO grades, telephone technicians plan for the maintenance of extensive telephone and switching systems in conjunction with other technical specialists or may supervise a shop providing maintenance support to other units. MOS 2891, Data/Communications Maintenance Chief, is assigned upon promotion to Master Sergeant.

Upon completion of the course, the student will possess weapon and infantry skills necessary to function as a member of a rifle squad or machine gun team.Through lecture, demonstration, and practical hands-on training, the student acquires skills in individual weapons, crew-served weapons, patrolling, tactical measures, NBC defense, land navigation, and close combat.
