Hi there, Iâm Johnânice to meet you :)Over the past decade working for myself, Iâve come to learn that how you show up in your photos can be the difference between being noticed and being remembered. I work with experts, speakers, authors, trainers, consultants, and professional service firms to make sure theyâre not just telling their story about how they solve their client's problems, theyâre showing it through the visual assets they share with those they serve.Expert-based business owners and professional service firms often face challenges like:â Outdated or inconsistent imagery that undermines credibility.â Generic visuals that fail to set them apart.â Misaligned photos that create a disconnect between their expertise and their audienceâs perception.â Overused stock photos that lack originality and fail to resonate with their target audience. For me, photography isnât about achieving an idealized image or creating something overly retouched - itâs about capturing the essence of what makes you, you.Where my clients use their photos:â Websitesâ Social media profiles and postsâ Speaker and media kitsâ Presentation slidesâ Digital ads and landing pagesâ Email newslettersâ Video thumbnailsâ PDFs and downloadable resourcesâ Sales materials and proposalsâ Pitch decksâ Event promotionsâ Blog posts and articlesâ Printed marketing materials, such as brochures and flyersâ Book covers and author pagesâ Press releasesâ Corporate branding and internal communicationsThese photos donât just sit quietly on a pageâthey work hard for my clients, helping them to:â Build credibility and trust in highly competitive industries.â Position themselves as thought leaders in their field.â Create meaningful connections that attract their ideal clients and top-tier talent. At the end of the day, your photos arenât about meâtheyâre about you. Theyâre about capturing what makes you unique, proving your message, and building trust with the people who matter most to your business. Letâs create visuals that show the world how you Deliver Magic and why youâre the one theyâve been looking for. #yeahabsolutely

Book PhotographerDemato Productions Dec 2020 - PresentNew York City Metropolitan AreaWhile using a digital image of their book cover is good enough for some authors launching their new book, for others, they want better. And thatâs where the Book Boudoir session comes in. These photos help provide potential readers an opportunity to preview the book in their hands through their eyes.In addition to capturing a variety of images of the bookâs cover and spine - whether a single or multiple copies - the session also includes photos of:⢠Table of contents⢠Chapter pages⢠Section headers⢠Pull Quotes⢠Illustrations⢠Unique icons and other customized imagery⢠Author signatureDuring the pre-session strategy call, authors explain how they plan to leverage these photos, and then talk about the unique aspects of their book that would be ideal to photograph. Based on the specific notes taken during the strategy all and my creative instincts, authors end up with a wide variety of images that they use to not only help promote their book, but also their expert-based business, as a whole.Authors have leveraged these photos for their: ⢠Website ⢠Online content⢠Digital ads ⢠Social Media banners ⢠Printed materials⢠Other marketing and promotional projectsWhile the Book Boudoir service is open to all types of books, non-fiction, personal and professional development types are best suited for this service. -
Branding PhotographerDemato Productions Jan 2017 - PresentNew York City Metropolitan AreaFor experts who speak, write books, train, coach, consult, and professional service firms, branding photos are a foundational element to their marketing and promotional efforts.Branding photography is broken down into two components:đ¸ Promotional Images â Headshots (tightly cropped photos) and wider portraits (standing, sitting, or leaning) while looking into the camera.đ¸ Lifestyle Photos â Candid images that capture them in the act of running various aspects of their business and living their lives. It all starts with a pre-session strategy call. Through a series of questions, we identify:âď¸ Who they areâď¸ Who they serveâď¸ The problems they solveâď¸ How they solve themThis informs us of:đ Specific types of promotional and lifestyle photos they need to captuređ Outfits they need to wearđ Personal and professional activities in which theyâre engaged in front of the camerađ Emotional sentiments conveyed through their body language and facial expressionsđ Locations in which these photos need to be capturedThese visual assets are tailored to support the unique branding needs of industries, from personal development, wellness, leadership, sales and marketing experts to law, finance, and other professional services. They are used across key marketing touch points, including:đ Websitesđ Speaker/Media Kitsđ Social Media Profilesđ Online Contentđ Client Proposals and Pitch Decksđ Email Campaigns and Newslettersđ Presentation Slidesđ Digital Adsđ Video Thumbnailsđ Printed Materials (brochures, reports, etc.)đ Internal Branding and Employee Onboarding MaterialsIâve worked with clients in a variety of fields, including sales, marketing, HR, corporate, entertainment, productivity, leadership teams, wellness, real estate, spirituality, psychology, and professional services such as doctors, lawyers, accountants, financial advisors, wealth management, graphic designers, and videographers. -
Live Event PhotographerDemato Productions Jan 2017 - PresentNew York City Metropolitan AreaFor experts who speak on stages or coach, train, and consult from the front of the room, it is important for them to share image content that provides potential clients a chance to visualize themselves in that room, learning from them in that capacity. It reinforces their credibility as a presenter and facilitator to those who hire them - event professionals, organizations and other individuals. And thatâs what live event photos provide. Some of the types of Live Events that Iâve captured include:⢠Keynotes⢠Breakout Sessions⢠Lunch and Learns⢠Group Coaching ⢠Group Trainings⢠Masterminds⢠Seminars⢠Conferences⢠Networking Events⢠Book Signings⢠Social GatheringsThis provides them and their marketing team with a wealth of image collateral to leverage in a variety of ways.In the same way that branding photos are used across an Expertâs online and offline presences, the same goes for their live event images, in addition to help support the promotion of the next live event. -
Headshot (And Jack-Of-All-Trades) PhotographerDemato Productions Aug 2014 - Jan 2017Astoria, NyCapturing headshots was my gateway into becoming a professional photographer.I met a headshot photographer during a segment I produced for Maury. The moment I walked into his studio and saw his lights, camera and setup, I was impressed. When I saw a couple photos he captured of the show's guest, I was instantly hooked. After joining his online headshot group, The Headshot Crew (then PH2 Pro), I learned the ins and outs of how to get the most out of a subject in front of the camera. I went from amateur to pro. When I ended my TV career, I decided that I wanted to do headshot photography full time. I've shot over 300 client headshots, from a variety of backgrounds, including:⢠Actors⢠Models⢠Real Estate agents⢠Business executives⢠Lawyers⢠Doctors⢠Musicians⢠Small business ownersUltimately, I expanded on my headshot work by branching out to capture a wide variety of photography to help pay the bills. Long story short, I became a jack-of-all-trades photographer out of necessity. Some of the work I captured included:⢠Networking events⢠Wedding proposals⢠Wedding anniversaries⢠Dating profile pictures⢠Pet photography⢠Food photography⢠DJ/Club photography⢠Sweet 16's⢠Bar/Bat Mitzvahs ⢠Dating profile photos⢠Fitness portraitsWhile all of these experiences helped contribute to the work I do today, I ultimately realized that the best path to a creatively and financially fulfilling photography business was to solely focus on one audience, learn everything about how they serve their people, and shoot that stuff. And since January 2017, that's exactly what I've done :) -
FounderDeliver Magic: Training For Branding Photographers Sep 2022 - PresentNew York City Metropolitan AreaMonetizing your art as a professional branding photographer is a difficult and challenging endeavor. I know all-too-well based on my own journey. Thatâs why I created a community to provide mentorship, training, and other support for branding photographers looking to grow an easy-to-refer business in their markets. In September 2023, I wrote a book, âDeliver Magic: Create an Easy-To-Refer Branding and Live Event Photography Business,â as the inspiration for this training program. Itâs built on 4 core principles: - Obsess Strategically - Deliver Incomparable Work - Overdeliver With Speed + Value - Tell The Never-Ending StoryThese core principles contribute to building a referable and memorable business by positioning themselves as a:⢠Go-to expert in your market that has experience serving people just like them ⢠Trustworthy solution to help fill the gaps in their visual storytelling strategy⢠Strategic collaborator in their success, and not just someone who shoot pretty picturesThrough a series of workshops and other training opportunities, we discuss the how behind the 4 core principles and how to implement them into their branding photography business.Deliver Magic is NOT about funnels, spam emails, scarcity tactics and hyperbole. It's about doing the work they do before, during and after the work BETTER, so that you can create more meaningful experiences for those you serve, providing them with maximum value for their investment. When they do that, clients will never shut up about how great they are to work with to people just like them. This is the key to building a fulfilling, successful, and easy-to-refer branding business. -
Photography SponsorNational Speakers Association Nyc Chapter Jun 2018 - PresentNew York, United StatesThis organization provided me an introduction into the world of experts who speak, coach, train, consult, and write books. Through a variety of ways, this is an organization dedicated to helping speakers improve both the art and business of speaking for each of its members. From emerging talent to well-established Hall of Famers, this Chapter is full of giving, supportive, and inspiring experts that work with some of the biggest corporations and organizations in the world. And, Iâve had the privilege and honor of meeting, befriending and photographing them all đIn addition to capturing candid moments that happen during the monthly Chapter meetings - the Presidentâs address, member insights, and guest speaker presentations - I also capture: ⢠Special Events⢠Masterminds⢠Board of Director HeadshotsThese photos are used throughout the Chapterâs online presence, including their website, online content and other promotional and marketing materials. In addition, members also use these photos for their own promotional purposes, as well.Ultimately, the goal is to help the NSA NYC spread the word to let speakers know that there is a resource for them to help elevate their businesses from where they are to where they want to be.Iâm grateful to be surrounded by professionals who inspire me to be better than I was yesterday. In return, I have the opportunity to provide them with compelling, high-quality visual assets that help them amplify their recruiting and marketing efforts. -
Contributing WriterSlr Lounge May 2019 - Jun 2021Greater New York City AreaOne day, a comment was posted to my blog from a photographer who appreciated the insight I shared in the article published that day. Interestingly enough, those articles are written specifically to provide value to my expert clients, not professional photographers. This inspired me to find an online outlet to provide valuable information related to building an easy-to-refer photography business. And thatâs how I came across SLR Lounge, a website aiming to provide a wealth of business-related resources to professional photographers. As a Contributing Writer, I wrote several articles related to:⢠Visual Storytelling⢠Writing strategies⢠Mindset strategies⢠Repurposing content⢠Building organic relationships ⢠Leveraging photo assets in contentAnd moreâŚI was grateful for my time spent writing for another publication other than my own blog, as it provided me an opportunity to provide value to my community. -

Co-FounderScrew The Metadata Oct 2018 - Apr 2020Greater New York City AreaThis was my first foray into the photography education space. Prior to the start of STM, Co-Founder, Maurice Jager, and I spent a lot of time on the phone complaining about the way many photographers presented their value through their online presence. We felt they spent all of their time talking to Google and not to the people in front of their cameras. One day, we decided we wanted to do something about it, and show them that the path to building a memorable and referable photography business was by connecting genuinely with those that they serve. And thatâs when Screw The Metadata was born.It was a coaching platform built on Kajabi, were we built online course modules geared towards educating photographers on the following topics:⢠Personal Branding⢠Online Content Creation⢠LinkedIn Profile Optimization ⢠Social Media Profile Optimization⢠Client Engagement Strategies⢠Identifying Strategic PartnershipsIn addition to the online course platform, we also provided a group forum on the platform and weekly, virtual calls with members to address their questions and talk content, branding and outreach strategies. We also conducted an in-person, half-day workshop during the PhotoPlus Expo in 2019, as well as directed a PhotoWalk that same year. I didnât know it then, but this experience would become the inspiration for what Deliver Magic has become today. -

Production AssistantHbo Aug 2000 - Aug 2005Ny, Ny.HBO East Coast Productions is where I got my first taste of real-life TV Production. While starting out as an Intern, I was eventually hired as a paid, Freelance Production Assistant, which was awesome since I actually watched the shows I was worked on.While I worked in the control room and on set, my mind was a sponge, soaking in valuable lessons as I watched the seasoned professionals do their thing. I learned very early on to shut up and keep my ears and eyes open at all times, and offer to help wherever I could. While handling a lot of entry-level work:⢠Answered phones in the control room⢠Assisted Camera Operators and Lighting Director ⢠Provided support to the Production Manager ⢠Helped Art Director dress the sets before taping⢠Ran teleprompter for on-camera talent⢠Ran for coffee and talent lunch orders đI learned a lot of the ins-and-outs of a live-to-tape, multi-camera production environment. All in all, a great place to learn the ropes - great crew, great bosses, great programming - I mean, it's HBO Sports, after all.
