Receives telephonic and internet based inquiries from Colorado FFLs. Compares descriptive data on the potential firearm purchaser provided by the FFL to their Department of Motor Vehicle record to verify the identity of the individual and authenticity of the information. Requests additional information from FFL as necessary. Verifies the FFL license, remaining constantly alert of possible attempts by unauthorized persons to gain access to InstaCheck by pretext. Ensures adherence to security regulations so that at no time will criminal history information be made available to the FFL.Performs a name only search of the Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the Interstate Identification Index (III), the National Criminal Instant Background Check System (NICS), the Integrated Colorado Online Network (ICON), and as warranted, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).Reviews descriptive data on the potential gun buyer provided by the FFL and compare to possible hits. If the search is negative and there is no criminal record, advises the FFL the sale may proceed. If a hit or potential hit occurs, it may be necessary to ask for additional descriptive information. Reviews the criminal records and determine whether the name and information match the potential gun buyer.Queries, receives, reviews, and analyzes those records which require little or no research for a determination to be made. Reviews each record to determine if charge is a felony or misdemeanor, which may require limited research of state law. Advises the FFL of decision made.Researches manuals, laws and others materials in an attempt to determine proper information and procedures to be applied in determining firearm eligibility. Make finals judgment and final determination on behalf of the CBI and the State of Colorado as to an individual's firearm eligibility based on examination of records, of limited research and Federal and State firearm laws.
