TracMap helps feed the world through guaranteed operational improvement. Our products are aimed at agriculture, viticulture, horticulture and aviation, primarily in the US, Australia and NZ.

As CTO I drove new product development, integration partnerships and our technology strategy. I was responsible for the development group, IT and technical support, covering a range of solutions from hardware guidance systems to online job management.

ADInstruments makes scientific hardware and software for tertiary research and education. They have offices in over a dozen countries and are one of the world’s largest suppliers of life science equipment - with products used in 90 of the top 100 Universities globally.As CTO of ADInstruments I was responsible for the research and development of innovative SaaS products, desktop software and hardware solutions, as well as Production Engineering and Global IT Services. In this role I introduced and embedded Agile and Lean in the business and was a Design Thinking catalyst. I was Agile Product Owner for the company’s hero products (kuraCloud/Lt and LabChart) and drove the vision, proposal, design and implementation of multi-million dollar projects. I ran a division with seven high performance teams and over 40 very capable staff, which continually improved through a focus on culture, team building, process and innovation. I also ran the company’s customer feedback, innovation and decision making process and maintained an exceptional track record of delivering projects successfully.

I managed all of the software development and part of the hardware research and design at ADInstruments, creating market-leading solutions for both teaching and research in the life sciences. This included innovative cloud-based systems, client/server applications, as well as Windows and OS X desktop applications. I was responsible for the Development Group of 30 staff (2 Chief Architects, 5 Co-ordinators, and a large group of Software Engineers) and loved working with all the incredibly creative and productive people.

I worked with the leadership team at Perreaux ( http://www.perreaux.com ) to help them improve project management and development. The focus was on establishing processes for requirements, risk assessment, scheduling and delivery - giving management the information they need throughout projects to have confidence in their decision making. This was successfully implemented with highly acclaimed product releases in the Audiant range.

Brighter Mathematics was a start-up of six people in Dunedin, providing Mathematical Modelling consulting services, teaching software and tutoring. Projects included building a mathematical expression engine for online teaching, and modelling oil pipeline corrosion using the finite element method.

I was a full time Lecturer in the Mathematics and Statistics department. Teaching aspects were focused on the Bachelor of Applied Science Computational Modelling degree, for example numerical methods and applied programming papers. My research was in areas of Applied Mathematics relating to surfactants, in conjunction with the Chemistry and Physiology departments at Otago.
