I worked with Prof. Magne Mogstad (University of Chicago) on the Initiative for the Study of Labor Markets, performing research at the intersection of labor economics and applied econometrics. Projects included- What is the causal interpretation of two-stage least squares with multiple instrumental variables?- How does international trade between firms affect employee wages?- Do prices of consumer goods respond to changes in the sales tax rate?The time I spent working for Prof. Mogstad also spurred some joint work on estimation and extrapolation of causal effects, which is still ongoing.

From August to December 2017 (one semester), I was the TA for Prof. James Cardon's industrial organization course. I taught and mentored ~35 students on a range of industrial organization topics, including mathematical theories of collusion, antitrust, and predatory pricing.From August 2017 to April 2018 (two semesters), I worked as the TA for Prof. Lars Lefgren's applied econometrics course. This was a class of ~40 students, whom I tutored on a range of econometric methods and their practical application in research. I also created and taught an 8-week Stata course on analysis and visualization, open to all economics students.In both courses, students were undergraduate economics students and graduate business students.

During my internship at TPC, my work primarily involved compiling and analyzing financial data in Excel, as well as applying international tax law to determine tax liability. Clients were mid-scale multinational firms with multiple foreign subsidiaries.For my primary client, I helped resolve an outstanding IRS audit by analyzing $150M in revenue disbursed between 200+ accounts.

This was a part-time internship that I did on a remote team at BYU. I led a 5-person team to forecast demand within the 40 unique market segments serviced by Union Pacific.Our team combed through 1,550 macroeconomic and industrial indicators to build dynamically updating forecasting models (one model per market segment). These models could also update based on parameters specified by industry experts. We built these models into a user-friendly Excel workbook that was distributed to UP managers and directors as a capital allocation resource.

This was a part-time internship that I did with a remote team at BYU. I was on a team of six, and we reported directly to the CEO of Hyundai Canada each week. We undertook a market research project for a new line of electric/hybrid vehicles.After presentations to the CEO and the CMO, the marketing team at HC decided to adopt our recommendations. The vehicle line ultimately sold out completely ($30M+ in sales) 6 months ahead of schedule.
