Direct business activities in support of senior Director, providing analysis and context to senior leadership to support decision making at the highest levels including with international partners and senior positions in govenrment. Cohere activity across governement departments in support of partnership's objectives.

Principal advisor to Navy Command Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) on matters relating to information assurance and information risk management.Advise CIO on implementation of Navy Command and MOD’s information assurance policies and provide advice and support to subordinate structures on their implementation of relevant policies. Investigate major information security breaches and advise CIO on appropriate remedial actions. Includes cyber, PED and third-party supplier cyber assurance.Review Navy Command SIRO level risk balance cases (RBC) and advise SIRO on risk appropriate risk mitigation strategies. In addition, provide comment on Navy Command SIRO’s behalf for RBCs being passed to MOD SIRO.

Advised Standing Joint Force Commander on Maritime communications. Conducted Operational level planning for the headquarters on deployed operations and exercises and supported the training of multi-national partners. Lead communications planning officer for the Combined Joint Expeditionary Force (UK/France bilateral agreement) leading the introduction of new UK operational level CIS and planning for major validation exercise.

Developed the Royal Navy’s tactics and doctrine for the new and rapidly growing area of Information Warfare as part of Defence’s Warfare in the Information Age (WITIA). Specific areas included communications, use of the electromagnetic spectrum, defensive and offensive cyber and space. This required continuous engagement with the other two services and Joint commands as well as Five Eyes (US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) and NATO partners. Notable success include working with the Canada support other NATO members’ adoption of the concepts of Maritime Information Warfare.

Responsible to Commander Maritime Operations for the generation of the Fleet Operating Schedule and 0-6 month programming of the Royal Navy’s 19 Frigates and Destroyers and 3 Capital Ships. This involved ensuring that maintenance and training was programmed to take into account unforeseen defects and meet the requirements of programmed deployments and ensure units were available to support emergent operations as required by the Government. This also included taking into account the delicate balance of managing the delivery of operations against the RN’s obligations to its personnel were met. Other responsibilities included managing and budgeting the fuel and ammunition allocations (>£1 million) for units and ensuring the correct ammunition load for allocated readiness was met.

As part of the Joint Effects planning staff responsible for the planning and incorporation of kinetic and non-kinetic effects for the Maritime Component Commander. This involved frequent liaison with superior and subordinate commands to ensure the full spectrum of effects were properly and effectively integrated into the plan. Thin included periods on stand-by to deploy as the part of the UK’s National Command in the event of an emerging crisis. The period also included the successful regeneration of the Maritime Battlestaff to be the UK’s high readiness Maritime Component Commander in support of the NATO Response Force.
