Words are my seeds.I wonder if my parents knew what would grow when they gave me a typewriter on my ninth birthday? Most everything I’ve created since then started with words on a page. • My writing was first published when I was fifteen years old. • I wrote for my college newspaper, then started another with a friend. • After getting hooked on personal computers when they became publishing tools, I specialized in graphic design, typography, and print production. Then I sold, networked and managed computers for people and companies doing those things. • I became the Executive Director of a non-profit organization for computer consultants, and I wore the letters off my keyboard. • I'm a musician. I wrote songs. (I still do.) I wrote songs with so many words I couldn’t remember them. (I still don't.) • Video production came next. I love working with words, images, sound and technology, and I always start with a script. • Event production brings it all together. Whether live, remote or online, every successful creative work needs an audience to experience it.In business-speak, I am a writer, image maker and media producer. I help authors, artists, academics, attorneys, businesses, non-profits and (a very few) politicians clearly communicate their stories to peers, potential customers, community groups, constituencies and juries so decisions can be made, actions can be taken, and markets and minds expanded. My work is often a major element of a live event. Underlying all of this is a deep appreciation of and orientation to the arts, which infuses my process with curiosity, inspiration, attention to detail and delight. My projects combine words, images, and sound with emotion, heart and hope in ways that still give me a thrill – even when I find ways to do better next time. I also love the teamwork that goes into producing a complex project – which probably started with a brainstorm on the back of an envelope. All of these experiences have taught me that I am able to: • Translate complicated concepts into simpler ideas • Find the essence of a story and write it clearly • Use metaphor to build bridges of understanding • Use great visuals to increase impact • Use the right music to build emotion • Manage complex tasks to achieve results • Learn new skills to grow my toolbox • Motivate, collaborate with and lead people to achieve shared visionsEvery next project brims with hope for an amazing result – and that hope is what moves me forward, learning new skills and building my strengths. What can we create together?
