WHAT I DO: I help turn ordinary companies into iconic brands. That means 2 things: deep, insightful brand strategy AND brilliant creativity. The two go hand in hand... The insight informs the strategy, the strategy guides the tactical execution, and the creative is the icing on the cake. WHO I SERVE: I work directly with business owners, CEOs and CMOs in the golf industry and in natural foods. If you work in a big corporate environment you're probably not a good fit. WHAT MAKES ME UNIQUE: I'm a creative guy with a penchant for business. A poetic entrepreneur. I can devise an insightful strategy in the morning and craft award-winning ad copy over lunch. It’s a left-brain, right-brain, one-two punch that appeals to clients who need to maximize every marketing dollar.SERVICES I PROVIDE: Brand strategy, naming, advertising copy and creative direction, blog writing, content production, marketing planning, consulting.WHERE YOU'VE SEEN MY WORK: • On grocery store shelves and kitchen tables... I helped conceive and launch Eathos, a national frozen food brand. I helped the founders of Coconut Secret launch an ecommerce operation that led to a lucrative exit. I helped Azure Standard with new packaging and vendor relations. I renamed, rebranded, and repositioned Smidge - small batch supplements.• On the golf course, in golf bags and golf shops... I named and re-branded Widgi Creek Golf Club. I helped put Sunriver Resort on the golf map. I put heads in beds with multi-media campaigns for Black Butte Ranch. I devised a whole new category for the Worx wedge and helped promote Bandon Dunes. I've marketed crazy training aids, game-changing putting classes, and world-reknown resorts.• In bookstores and in major publications... I wrote "Money Name - How to choose a brand name you can bank on" and "The Forget-About-It Guide To Better Golf." My articles have appeared in Golf Digest, Links Magazine, The Salt Lake Tribune, Gourmet Magazine, Architectural Digest, The Oregonian, MarketingProfs.com and the Brand Insight Blog.WHAT'S MY STORY? I started as a direct response copywriter — where sales ROI was the only litmus test of success. From there I worked for several ad agencies on a vast array of campaigns. Then I did a stint in the video industry where I wrote scripts for big brands such as HP, Tektronix and WearEver. Eventually I moved to Bend and opened my first agency named AdWords, which I eventually sold to Google. I rebranded and have been running BN Branding since 2005. In 2023 I launched BirdieOps to serve the golf industry.
