I'm currently working on a Dev-ops team building a software development workspace on AWS. I'm responsible for deploying applications on a Kubernetes cluster to meet the needs of our users based around the globe.I lead the development of a python project aimed at automating data collection and comparison for a quality assurance team. This script has reduced the manual work that used to take 3 people 5 weeks into an automated task.

This was a fast paced development role building software with the use of a variety of tech stacks from Python to Angular. This role allowed me to work as a part of a development team under the guidance of senior developers. We followed Agile practices to see our projects through to completion. This was a great opportunity to interlinear with a mature code base with many interacting dependencies. As a Software Development Intern I'm responsible for developing and maintaining web interface components, integrating our front end and back end systems to manipulate and store data. This role requires problem solving and technical skills to engineer solutions in our software. This internship has so far been invaluable in teaching me the technical skills and Scrum style team work necessary to grow a product.

For this role I built the website for Gingers cafe using html & css. This led to me managing the cafe's Instagram and Facebook posts which I automated and did the photography for.

This role introduced me to being a team leader in a professional sense. I worked with a variety of other team members to ensure the venue was run in accordance with our plan. As a manager I spent a lot of time getting to know the customers to fit our products and services to meet their needs. This role required responsibility, time management and teamwork.

These roles focused mostly on customer service and meeting the needs of my colleagues. Working for many years in Customer service has taught me a range of skills including; working with people to resolve conflicts and ensuring the customer is satisfied. This now informs my interactions both professionally and personally and means I spend a lot of time listening to the people I interact with as it ensures they feel heard and gets you far closer to what you want than simply talking at people.

After negotiating a deal for a second hand mountain bike, I became interested in the Idea of selling the bike for a profit. To my surprise being good at negotiating and selling a product can be awfully profitable and in the months after my first sale I ended up trading close to 15 bikes and cars online for a rather substantial profit. This venture did however introduce me to business ethics which motivated me to enrol in Computer Science at Adelaide Uni to learn to develop a product I truly believed in instead of just selling products that make money and $%#& the customer. Trading goods online taught me about developing business relationships to outsource work, managing your books to stay in the black, marketing your product to the right audience, as well as how to and how not to sell.

Working as a labourer taught me how to go about developing a quality product for a customer and how meeting your customer’s needs is more important than getting the job done as a lot of time and money can be lost doing the wrong thing well.
