I am a Business Law attorney at Bond, Schoeneck & King who represents employers in all aspects of employee benefits law. My experience includes representing a wide range of employers, including public and private sector employers, non-profit organizations and higher education institutions. My practice focuses on assisting employee benefit plan sponsors and fiduciaries in complying with the requirements of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and Internal Revenue Code and regularly works on matters involving both retirement plans and welfare plans. My areas of experience with respect to retirement plans include the design, implementation and termination of qualified retirement plans (including traditional 401(k) plans, "safe harbor" 401(k) plans, profit sharing plans and defined benefit plans), tax-sheltered annuity plans and non-qualified retirement plans. I represent employers in matters involving the Internal Revenue Service, United States Department of Labor and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation and has assisted employers in connection with IRS and DOL plan audits. My areas of experience with respect to welfare plans include the design and drafting of welfare benefit plans and summary plan descriptions, including health plans (insured and self-insured), cafeteria plans, disability plans, life insurance plans and severance plans. I also frequently advise employers regarding the implementation and administration of health savings accounts, health reimbursement arrangements and health flexible spending accounts and regularly assists employers regarding health plan administration issues, including COBRA, HIPAA and qualified medical child support order compliance issues. Recently, I have spent considerable time assisting employers with compliance issues related to the health care reform provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, including strategic planning issues regarding health plan designs.
