John Grin is a full professor of ´policy science, especially system innovation´ at the Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam. He is co-director of the programme group Transnational Configurations, Conflicts and Governance of the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research.From 2006-2009, he was scientific director of the Amsterdam School of Social science Research (ASSR), in which political scientists, sociologists and anthropologists co­operate. He is a member of Perform, an interdisciplinary research team on new democratic practices. In addition, John Grin is co­director of the Dutch Knowledge Network on SystemInnovations ( KSI ), specifically responsible for the KSI subprogramme on governance studies, as well for its interface between research and practice, organized through the Competence Centre for Transitions (CCT). He is responsible for a post­graduate course for practitioners engaged in system innovation. John Grin is a physicist by Training (BSc, 1983; MSc, 1986) After obtaining his PhD in 1990 at the VU University in Amsterdam on a thesis on technology assessment in the area of military technology and international security, he worked on on these issues for another two years at VU University and Princeton University. In 1992 he joined the University of Amsterdam.
