I'm Managing Director of Cambridge Micro Engineering Ltd. (CME), an electronics design and development consultancy based in Cambridge, UK focused on microcontrollers and microprocessor based electronics design. In this role I have lead the company since its formation and have been involved with over 300 product developments during that time, from avionics to consumer devices, from industrial controls to medical devices. My engineering involvement is principally in the microcontroller electronics design and associated embedded software, although I have a secondary role in product compliance engineering.Although my speciality is electronics hardware and software design, I’m truly passionate about electronics engineering, particularly those that involve microcontrollers. I am privileged that my job allows me to be involved in a wide range of applications and industries, many involved with new or cutting edge products and processes. One of our most exciting projects to date was our involvement with a company who developed solar powered devices that could replace aging and dangerous kerosene lamps in third-world counties as part of the Lighting Africa and AFREA initiatives. It was great to be involved with what not only became a commercial success but also had such a direct and positive humanitarian impact.While I enjoy almost all aspects of my job, my favourite stages of a project are those where our creative skills are most utilised; whether it’s the initial collaboration process with a client to understand their business objectives, or that first prototype design where the client’s dream starts to come to life. It’s when ideas come together, plans materialise and people can begin to see the fruits of their often hard fought labours; whether it’s a miniaturised electronic valve or a large scale industrial process controller, a cutting edge medical device or an innovative educational product.I like keeping in touch over LinkedIn network but I prefer to add a connect only after I have met someone and had a conversation.
