After 50+ years of successful business and entrepreneurial experience, 45 years of deep, and continuing, personal development work, 2100+ hours of coaching training that is ongoing, two degrees in writing and 30 years of writing experience, I decided it was time to stop getting ready to start coaching, and actually start doing it. I finally made the move in the fall of 2021 and am actively growing my business today.I've been coaching for over 25 years, but always as part of doing other work. In the fall of 2021, I decided it was time to finally focus on what I was passionate about -- inspiring and motivating other people to live their best lives, at home, and in their businesses.My experience in business and personal development, coaching, and writing, helped me develop a unique and powerful methodology that uses storytelling to help people who are just starting to plan their retirement, and those who have been retired long enough to realize it wasn't what they thought it would be like. This builds a blockbuster mindset that is required if they want a fantastic retirement - whatever comes at them. I help my client create rock-solid foundations and plans that can be used to start and grow a businesses, create a non-profit, energize relationships, serve the community or travel the world. As a communications professional at Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, I had one of the best job descriptions I could imagine - "Tell the amazing stories of volunteers, homebuyers, donors, employees and supporters of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity (TCHFH) and inspire more people to join and support our Mission."That mission is to "Eliminate poverty housing from the Twin Cities and to make decent,affordable shelter for all people a matter of conscience."How cool is that? I took full advantage of my love of storytelling, my writing degrees, my digital storytelling skills, as well as my public relations, branding, marketing, and social media skills -- all to make a difference in people's lives. You can't ask for much more than that.

There's no better way to improve your skills than teaching others how to what you do. That's what I did with Public Relations Specialist students at the Takoda Institute (an education arm of American Indian OIC). I taught them how to write for PR and Communications as well as public speaking. I worked hard to bring them to a high level of expertise and preparedness for the market, and they rewarded me by enthusiastically demonstrating their skills everyday in class. I also mentored them to find ways to use their skills to make a difference in the world. I'm was proud to teach these remarkable students and I know any company or organization that hires them will be glad they did.At American Indian OIC, I had the opportunity to put into practice what I taught my PR students everyday. I worked in-house with other entities inside the American Indian OIC, as well as with outside nonprofit clientele. I handled all aspects of digital marketing, including social media and web development. In addition, I supervised advanced PR students during their internships.

When I started at World Wide Village, a nonprofit focused on Haiti, their brand story was too broad, confused, and poorly articulated to the public. I recognized the good work they did in helping the children of Haiti with food, education, and shelter, but their website was arcane and difficult to navigate and attracted fewer than a couple of dozen people per day.I asked a lot of questions, learned the history and mission, and discovered why those running the organization, or working there, were so passionate about what they did. Then I worked to translate their story in ways that would attract new supporters and donors.I totally redesigned and rebuilt their website. I narrowed their focus areas from 11 down to 4. I wrote or collected personal stories about what was happening in Haiti and developed a plan to share them via blogs, newsletters and social media. I produced video stories and spread them on the site and on the web. And I created a PR plan that got broadcast and print outlets talking about them.The results included leveraging to featured appearances on the hit "Giuliana and Bill Show" on the Style Network, and increase in web traffic to over 250 per day, a four-fold increase in followers and likes on Twitter and Facebook, several television stories and radio interviews, and dozens of articles in print and online publications across the country.

After writing an audio version of the FISH! Philosophy video, (the all-time best-selling business video), I was well connected with the author who sold 30 million books on the FISH! Philosophy (if you aren't familiar with it, you should be - check it out). He and his writing partner wrote a book called "Top Performer; A Bold Approach to Sales and Service" The book used the model of a street performer as a metaphor for how to do business.They hired me to produce a video based on the concepts in "Top Performer," then asked me to start and build a company around the book and video.Using a documentary style approach, we shot interviews and captured footage of street performers in the U.S. and in London, and edited together a fast-paced, funny, and intriguing video unlike anything that had been done previously.The video attracted attention from some major companies. After completing the video, and doing the company-building groundwork of getting offices, building a website, and setting up operations, I turned my attention to marketing. The first contract we landed was for training 5000 owners, managers and franchisees for Hampton Hotels. To deliver, I project managed a 120 day, 20 city training event tour that included 15 performers, and 85 support people. Participants said it was the best event they had ever been to.This was followed up by training over 4000 people at Best Buy, 1500 trainers at Outback Steakhouses, 5000 people at the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association, and 850 at the Crown Council. Not a bad total for year one of a start-up.
