Management responsibilities included administration, creative direction, development of graphic standards, hiring and supervision of four computer graphic artists. Primary production consisted of instructional materials for the inspection of pollution control equipment mandated by the 1990 Clean Air Act. Materials included training manuals for students and instructors, videos for classroom and self-instructional courses, and digital slides for live courses and workshops taught monthly via satellite. Graphics production was primarily on Windows-based PCs with additional support from Macintosh platforms. -

This included computer image creation on a variety of hardware and software systems including Targa TIPS, MicroGrafx Designer, Mass11 Draw, Dr. Halo, Deluxe Paint, etc. Also responsible for PR and creative graphic and design needs for the company.HIGHLIGHT: In 1989, I designed and supervised the construction of an interactive kiosk, designed the video-graphic screens, and coordinated the production of a recruitment program for Northeastern University installed at Logan International Airport. In 1990, I designed the computer graphic screens and educational images for the “Capillary Racer” game for the BodyTech exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science in Durham (this was still in use the last time I visited, although that was a few years ago).

Duties included overall project management, employee supervision, client interface, program flowcharting and design, instructional design assistance, storyboarding, screen design and graphics, authoring, video and videodisc production coordination, and corporate graphics.HIGHLIGHT: In 1986, I played a primary role in the program design, screen graphics, “authoring,” and physical installation of Glaxo Pharmaceutical’s 20-system touchscreen interactive training program on anti-hypertensive drugs for sales reps, the company’s first multimedia training effort. Later that year, I became Project Manager and primary developer of an interactive radiation safety training program for Burroughs-Welcome employees in Research Triangle Park. In 1987, I was designated Project Manager and client liaison for LRI's largest corporate training project for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals of New Jersey. Although significant visual and instructional design on this project was completed, sadly, in 1988, corporate investors "pulled the plug" on LRI before the project reached final production.

Design and curatorial duties included close collaboration with the research and development and collections curators to visualize and create initial designs, conceptual drawings, scale models, engineering plans, blueprints, artifact handling and mounting, materials specifications, as well as collateral print and A/V media development, and finished designs and graphics for mounting each exhibition.HIGHLIGHTS: Designed and produced major state historical exhibits including “The Black Presence in North Carolina,” the first “Juried Exhibition of North Carolina Crafts,” and “Raleigh and Roanoke: The 400th Anniversary of the First English Settlement in America” (produced in cooperation with the British Library and the New York Public Library, this was the largest and most prestigious exhibit in the museum's history).
