As a Data Operations Lead and Senior Ontologist at BasisPath, Inc., I leverage my 20+ years of experience in the Department of Defense and Intelligence Communities to build an Ontology Foundry from the ground up. My mission is to enhance data centricity across the community by developing ontologies in Web Ontology Language (OWL) using Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) as a top-level ontology.I have a strong background in knowledge models and ontologies, knowledge graphs, ontology driven systems, AI/ML integration, data integration and transformation, policy, and Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) practices and methodologies. I have also provided subject matter expert support for data related issues to the Chairman of the Intelligence Community Chief Data Officer Council and the IC Search Tiger Team. I have integrated over 500 disparate ontologies into an RDF Graph database with over 900 million triples to answer Key Intelligence Questions. The product of an ontological process (an ontology) is intended to provide a comprehensive representation of the entities in a given domain encapsulating the terminological content of established knowledge of the sort that is contained in a scientific textbook. Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) is a top level ontology developed for the purposes of promoting interoperability among domain ontologies that are built in its terms through a process of downward population. The structure of BFO is based on a division of entities into two disjoint categories of continuant and occurrent, the former comprehending for example objects and spatial regions, the latter comprehending processes conceived as extended through (or as spanning) time.
