My engineering background has been called upon to detect the flaw in the make-up of a nylon polymer and the cause of an automated system's failure to prevent a disaster. However, the ultimate skill is being able to explain all this simply and persuasively to a lay jury and convince them which way to go. This takes a lot of practice and experience. I was recruited to this position to address a problem of professional liability exposure that was costing the company millions of dollars every year. The position also included advising top management on a wide range of legal issues including employment decisions, regulatory problems, liability prevention training and contractual drafting.

This is where I learned to be comfortable in a courtroom, prepare for trial, and communicate with jurors and clients in simple motor vehicle injury cases and less complex products and premises liability matters.
