Responsible for managing the accounting, risk management, regulatory, compliance and operations area. Provided strategic advice to the company to convert to a Schedule I bank.

Managed the branch with assets of $750M, revenues of $26M and net income of $15M.Developed a strong operational and lending platform to expand the Canadian platform by attracting businesses from Comerica’s branches in the US resulting in the branch servicing over 40 cost centers. Increased revenues from $19M in 2004 to $27M in 2007. In the same period, pre-tax income increased from $16M to $23M. Loan assets went from $430M to $750M and deposits increased from $77M to $170M. Expanded the bank’s “white-labeled” current account business with RBC, which generated about $8M in revenues from foreign exchange, deposits and cash management services. Spearheaded a project to interface RBC and Comerica systems enabling Comerica’s customers to conduct their electronic banking on Comerica’s platform. Upgraded the bank’s MIDAS system and implemented an integrated MIS system which tracks profitability of 40 cost centers and products.Streamlined and automated the operations of the bank resulting in increased efficiencies and cost savings.Developed and managed the bank’s corporate governance, risk management and compliance programs. The bank’s operation has consistently been rated very highly by internal, external and regulatory examiners.

Acted as a consultant to the company in obtaining its Loan and Trust Company license and the setup of the company to operate as a Loan company. Managed the finance department of the Canadian operations of two companies with yearly revenues of $20M and sales of about $4 Billion. Set up the bank’s accounting and reporting framework for financial, management and regulatory reporting to OSFI and CDIC.Assisted the US parent in the acquisition of the Mastercard merchant-acquiring portfolio from Canada Trust. Worked with various accounting, regulatory and tax issues relating to the purchase. Structured transactions between the Canadian companies and affiliated companies in the US to meet regulatory requirements and to mitigate taxes payable.

Responsible for managing the planning, accounting, administration, systems, operations, risk management and HR of a $1 billion bank with revenues $50+ million. First non-Japanese to assume the EVP role in Fuji’s worldwide offices.Directed the bank's risk management and operations departments. Developed policies relating to interest rate, foreign exchange, liquidity, operational and system risks. Re-engineered the operations department improving work efficiencies. Managed the bank's management and financial reporting functions to regulatory authorities, senior management, Head Office and Board of Directors. Set up a fully computerized and integrated bank accounting and management information system for reporting, performance analyses, budgets and regulatory reporting. Dealt with accounting issues relating to the acquisition, merger and subsequent disposal of the Bank's subsidiaries.Implemented tax planning strategies and compliance work. Structured a corporate re-organization relating to the merger, acquisition and disposal of the bank's subsidiaries resulting in a tax recovery in excess of $10 million. Spearheaded a successful tax appeal against CRA which resulted in tax savings of over $5 million.Provided technical leadership to the bank’s IT department. As a selected test and reference site, directed and implemented software to process, record and risk managed the bank’s financial instruments and derivative transactions. Saved $300,000+ in software and implementation costs.Responsible for the Bank's human resource policies and issues, general office administration matters, pension and benefit plans and expense budget of $6+ million. Designed a performance and pay equity system.As Chief Compliance Officer developed corporate, risk management and regulatory policies. Dealt with regulatory authorities such as OSFI and CDIC on all regulatory matters. Coordinated all Audit Committee, Conduct Review Committee and Board of Directors meetings.

Co-authored the firm’s publication “Financial Reporting for Canadian Banks”. Developed audit and training programs for audits of banks and managed audits of several foreign banks.Managed an audit and investigation into a state owned bank in Trinidad & Tobago at the request of the Auditor General. Developed audit and risk management procedures and trained local staff on how to audit banks.
