Dorman Products engineers aftermarket parts for the automotive and heavy duty truck markets. As a Mechanical Engineer at Dorman, I am responsible for reverse engineering a variety of aftermarket parts. The process includes 3D modeling, material analysis, baseline testing, development and packaging. An engineer is responsible for a project from its inception through development, into production samples and after the final launch. I have been a part of the reverse engineering of projects ranging from thermoplastic coolant reservoirs, die-cast hinges, stainless steel exhaust sleeves, locking door latches, sheet metal panels and structural members, wiper arms, intricate turbo chargers and much more.

Leydon Restorations specializes in vintage automobile engine building. The shop focuses on Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Ferrari, Jaguar, Maserati, and MG automobiles. I was involved in the complete process of engine restoration: dis-assembly, diagnostics, component design, machining, assembly, and dynamometer testing. My engineering talents were utilized by providing a mathematic and scientific approach to conquer the various hurdles encountered during a restoration. I used SolidWorks to provide models and drawings of pistons, valves, connecting rods, gaskets and other components for machining and fabrication. Additionally, I used the software to create 2D and 3D constrained assemblies for checking clearances between rotating engine parts and verifying the component geometry. I designed and implemented the shops current dynamometer testing system which included developing the wired control systems with fail safes that would protect an engine in case of dynamometer failure or engine ignition/control/lubrication failure. I installed the electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems to support the dynamometer unit and I performed the online training, system diagnostics and system setup with the manufacturer. I was the chief operator of the dynamometer and was in charge of engine setups, testing and reporting.
