CeoKellan Group Plc May 2007 - Mar 2009Kellan Group, previously Berkeley Scott plc, is an AIM listed buy and build recruitment business trading across a wide range of functional and industry sectors. The Group was invested in by two recruitment industry ‘veterans’ in December 2006 to use as a vehicle to develop a portfolio of premium bands within a fragmented recruitment sector. As CEO, I:• Initial focus to returning Berkeley Scott to profitability following consistent losses since its IPO in 2004. Quickly achieved positive NFI growth and returned the business to profitability in H2 2007 and beyond• Set new strategic direction, restructured operations, rationalised cost base and focused on capturing the pricing potential of Berkeley Scott’s premium brand. Closed down non-core businesses and loss-making offices and re-focussed operations into higher potential and strategically important geographies.• In September 2007, acquired Quantica plc (trading mainy under the Quantica and Robinson Keane/RK brands) for £30.3m. Undertook investor roadshow to raise funds with 24m new shares placed• Integrated the two businesses whilst delivering synergies and cost savings of £1.1m in year 1. • Successfully retained all management within the Quantica businesses and delivered immediate (Q4 2007) NFI growth • Implemented a group standard CRM system, merged the support functions and consolidated the property portfolios, the latter saving £150,000 a year.• Delivered H1 2008 EBITA of £2.04m on NFI growth of 20%, ahead of market expectations and roughly twice the pro-forma level achieved in H1 2007• In less than two years, turned a loss making business operating purely in the hospitality and leisure sector into a profitable, acquisitive, multi-functional recruitment business with a clear strategy for future growth
