About John Jacobs, Mba

Tango, don’t Tap Dance. One of the best compliments I ever received was from a British colleague who told me, “You communicate with the efficiency of a North American.” I instantly burst out laughing knowing exactly what he meant. I get to the point quickly, not rudely, but well, efficiently. Relationships are important to me, personally and professionally, the best relationships are built on the type of mutual respect where people are comfortable being honest and direct, not to offend, but to engage in a meaningful discussion. I prioritize creating a safe, trusting environment to get the best results from myself and my team. Humor, usually self-deprecating, never directed at someone, is my not very secret weapon. I see humor, and irony in a lot of things, this probably comes from growing up in New York. Humor has long been my ally to connect with others or get through a tough day. Humor is a universal language, when used in the right way, at the right moment. It signals to others a willingness to share, to be vulnerable, allowing them to do the same. I’ve long said that the best answers come from a group of committed people openly sharing and brainstorming together. So, skip the pressure of tap dancing to skillfully nuance or avoid an issue. Go ahead, be honest, be direct, be kind, be understanding. Together, you’ll be able to tango your way forward, in step. It’s much easier on the joints too😊.
