After a nine-year adventure abroad, I recently returned to my roots in North Carolina. During that time I volunteered on farms and with local businesses, and eventually moved on to become an educator. In returning to the US, it was important for me to choose a job that allowed me to prioritize my mental and emotional health in anticipation of culture shock. Working as a package handler and ride-share driver sharpened my ability to be attentive and able to adjust to changes. This was crucial to providing excellent customer service, while also allowing me to prioritize self-care. However, my education in Anthropology and Global Studies has never left my mind, as it gave me a deeper understanding of cross-cultural communication, a passion for community, and informed my years of working as an educator in Thailand. For five years I worked as an ESL Teacher, and my experience as an educator gave me the skills to effectively assess situations and plan on behalf of my organization. During that time I have honed the skills to work closely with diverse communities, identifying their unique needs and concerns, and creating effective solutions that benefit the community and organization. Having adjusted to living in the US again, I am excited to collaborate with like-minded professionals in pursuit of this goal. In my free time, I stay acting by playing tennis and exploring the local culinary scene. Food has always been at the center of my family and community. I am excited to continue growing professionally and personally, and to make meaningful contributions to the communities in the place I call home.
