In my three-year tenure as Vice President of Interactive Strategies at the Case Foundation, I’ve had dual responsibilities as an open source software thought leader and as an internal technology consultant. My role as a thought leader came out of the Case family’s desire for the foundation take a leadership position on a tech-for-good topic. Through my experience as a software developer, I saw an altruistic value of open source contributions, and through the experience of the foundation team, we saw a gap in open source collaboration among nonprofits. We therefore built out an open source program that included open sourcing and promoting our own software, authoring thought leadership pieces such as one which ran in the Stanford Social Innovation Review titled Open Source is Philanthropy (https://ssir.org/articles/entry/open_source_software_is_philanthropy), speaking at conferences such as GitHub Universe, All Things Open, and Good Tech Fest, and, in 2019, co-funding a research project in partnership with GitHub to examine the barriers preventing nonprofits from better using and sharing open source software.In addition to my external leadership role, I acted internally as a technology expert, working with executives, operations, IT, subject matter experts, and communications teams to find and lead the implementation of various solutions for the foundation’s programs. This included overseeing the construction of multiple new web platforms, driving our team to use data to better information decision making, leading a data visualization project that displayed the connections between thousands of investors and companies, building a grant and contract management system, designing a migration and change management process for 20+ years of data for that system, and, of course, maintaining legacy platforms.

As Senior Technologist at Adfero Group, John combines his technical savvy with unique problem-solving skills to innovate new solutions for clients. Along with acting as a technical lead on projects, John is responsible for coordinating the interactive department's team of top developers and promoting the latest digital trends with Adfero's entire team.

At Adfero Group John's primary responsibilities include interacting with clients and account staff on a daily basis to aid in development and management of various digital projects. This includes architecting and managing websites using WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla; developing iOS applications; designing mobile, web, and print advertisements; and researching emerging digital tools for internal and client use.

Interning at EXTOL International for three years, John had the opportunity to work with developers, product managers, quality assurance personnel, and managers on a variety of projects. While attending Dickinson College, John assisted college photographer Pierce Bounds covering college and community events. His event coverage experience includes: club events, college dinners, town festivals, sports (Football, soccer, frisbee, track & field), lectures, special guests, concerts, portraits, and group shots.

In the summer of 2006, John updated the Schuylkill County website to meet accessibility standards using Dreamweaver. Accessibility improvements included making the site navigable using screen-readers, adding captions to images, and training staff to continue to build accessibile content.
