During his first year at bp, he made significant contributions to the development of the company's mobile bpMe app. His role involved conducting user research, creating conceptual wireframes, and developing high-fidelity prototypes to refine the app's design. Initially worked with Market Engineering team (for 1.5 years) to optimize the hyatt.com homepage and map search experience. Teamed up with another designer to research, re-architect and redesign the home page. Also worked with a team of 5 other UX professionals on optimizing the global navigation for hyatt.com and World of Hyatt. While in that discovery phase, was responsible for Heuristic evaluation, competitive analysis, documentation and interaction and design deliverables.As of a year ago, Hyatt underwent a ‘digital transformation’. With this new structure and new management, the company shifted digital to adhere to the popular Spotify “Pod Model”. Pods were created to encapsulate an entire experience within the Hyatt infrastructure, not just a single part (or platform) of the site. With this new model, there were designated pod leaders. One developer, one product manager and one designer. John was promoted into the lead design position for the Pre/In-Stay pod. This pod supported the app and web experiences that allowed a guest to successfully/easily check-in prior to their stay. Responsibilities included (1) supporting check-in infrastructure already in place, (2) optimizing new check-in experiences based upon user data, KPI’s and research findings, (3) working with the other pod leaders to drive innovation and forward thinking initiatives based upon business, technology stacks and experiential needs that would ultimately fulfill the proposed KPI’s defined at the conception of the pod, (4) work closely with developers within the pod to ensure they are supported in their builds and those builds are happening with close UX approval, (5) lead as the main UX resource for regression testing iOS and Android builds before they are released.

Worked with UX Architect, UX Practice Area Lead for a client who reports competitive employee compensation data to companies researching the market average. Built an environment (deliverables include static wireframes, Interactive prototypes, visual design comps, user stories, documentation, task flows, user flows, etc.) that would allow the user to access customized salary based reporting based upon geographic location, salary range, individual personal parameters, etc. Solution was provided by allowing the user to customize their employee compensation preferences without needing to contact or email customer support.

Main responsibility was to build a Tableau dashboard that simplified and organized the data taxonomy into assigned visualization buckets. Was provided list of approximately 160 business questions with the intention of averaging them into one of six different visualizations. Began by building a content data matrix and formulated that data into an assigned card sort. After the card sort, data was migrated into a bucketed map and assigned a visualization. Other responsibilities included building an initial wireframe interfaces based upon the architecture research and findings.

Developed a generalized standardization of UX practices, naming conventions and document structures within the Cars.com UX and Design department. Created adaptive widget libraries for desktop, tablet and mobile viewports. Developed a folder hierarchy within all building documents that remain consistent for every designer and usability expert. Final result has been a team that produces the same structured work that adds reliability and consistency to the project hierarchy. Collaborated with two other IXD’s to redesign and re-architect a major experience within the Cars.com site infrastructure. Developed user flows, feature diagrams, low fidelity and high fidelity wires. Collaborated with back end architect, front end developers, product managers and designers to create a user friendly design that was also functional.
