Principle

Us

Proprietor of a design build mechanical contracting company focused on Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) technology. Provided expert services in system design, application, installation, repair and commissioning. Sub-contracted for Mitsubishi Electric Heating and Cooling. Provided fee based consulting to distributors and contractors. This company was founded on the premise that I would transition out contracting and into distribution and manufacturing with a leading VRF company. In a year and a half the company’s sales were roughly $700 with a net margin of just about 25%. The average invoice amount was $4,200. The business was sold in 2010.Highlight: The Culver Hotel (http://www.slideshare.net/john_chavez/the-culver-hotel-book)State License Number 923247 https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/checklicense.aspx

Nov 2008 - May 2010

Mechanical Sales Consultant

As a hundred percent commission based sales consultant, my duties included but not limited lead generation, farming new customers, closing contracts, plan take-offs, project estimating, job site inspections, job costing, quoting, life cycle costing, product procurement, project management and customer service. All contracts required that I sell confidence to the prospective buyer about my abilities as a project manager, the particulars of the deal and the capabilities of the company. My sales for this short period were about $450k. My average closing rate was about 40%. As just one out of five sales people, I was given the low tier customers so I had to farm new, highly quality, clients. It was fun all the way up to the end. Unfortunately this company went out of business in December 2007.

Dec 1994 - Sep 2006

Service Technician

Atlas Aire

As a service technician, my coverage area spanned the entire Los Angeles County and Orange County markets serving customers with residential and light commercial HVACR systems. Some of the projects included ice machines, frozen food preparation, egg farms, low rise chiller systems, medium pressure gas heating systems, large pool gas heating systems, restaurant cook stove refrigerated drawers, walk-in coolers, beer coolers, computer rooms systems, zoning, building controls and solar water heating. My boss was a very good and patient teacher. He had a policy of not charging for time when I was performing on the job training. He was fair to me and to our customers.

Nov 1990 - Mar 1993

Service Technian

Polar All-Home Refrigeration

Was promoted from answering the phones and performing office duties to learning the trade. My first service call was a evening emergency call to repair a home refrigerator. After months of riding along with the owner's son and going to a local city college at night, I was able to use all my knowledge to solve the issue. The refrigerator overheated because of a dirty condenser. I vacuumed out the condenser coil , waited around to see the pressures and temperatures drop then charged the customer about $85.00. It was magnificent. I continued to work on my own that winter troubleshooting residential gas fired heating systems then graduated to light commercial refrigeration systems (deli cases, single and two door units, under the counter units) and the following systems worked on unitary air conditioning. The summer of 1987, I completed a teardown and rebuild of a Scotsman crushed ice machine. It was a technical feat and proved to my peers and my boss that I could do well in this industry. The financial highlights from this period was being able complete eleven (11) service calls in one day and invoicing about three thousand dollars. Also, my warranty return call rate ratio averaged 25:1. Only the owner's son had a better ratio.
