About John Kepner
I’ve had quite a journey so far, with 15 years as an economist, 21 years as a yoga teacher and therapist, and 17 years at the helm of IAYT. Still mission driven, now its time to put on a new set of tires...and continue to try to make a contribution. I've had a lifelong interest in improving financial support for complementary and alternative health care, and worked for many years in this area for Yoga therapy. These days I'm getting more involved with Yoga's sister science, Ayurveda. After briefly serving on the Board of Advisors for the Ayurvedic Accreditation Commission, I was elected to the Board of Directors for the National Ayurvedic Medical Association in July, 2024. I also serve on the Board of Advisors for the Anandmay Yoga Therapy Hospital, Wellness & Research Center in Ujjain, India.I am also am getting more and more involved in non-partisan political efforts, primarily No Labels, and serve as one of their state volunteer leaders in Arkansas. This is one of the few bright spots I see in American politics.

John served as the executive director of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) from its renewal in 2003 through 2020. With the help of many mission driven individuals within IAYT, and colleagues across the globe, we led the development of the field of Yoga therapy as a credible emerging field in integrative health, with professional publications, conferences, standards and much more. In particular, John championed IAYT as a member of the Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health since 2006, where Yoga was the first unlicensed field to be represented. Another special interest was global collaboration towards high standards in the field, and I appreciated the chance to present and work with colleagues all over the world with this common mission.

AUGER is the non-profit organization that supports the Dunbar Garden Project, a relatively large and successful school garden closely linked to Gibbs Elementary and Dunbar Middle School in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was on the founding board, and eventually became executive director for several years. During this time, we became a Heifer Project Partner and often hosted Heifer visitors from all over the world. The Dunbar Garden Project is a real jewel and a good example of a public private partnership to support public education and school gardening.
