John Krebsbach is an experienced founder and chief operating officer who enjoys the journey of building high growth companies with great people. He earned and refined his growth operator skill set in a variety of environments, from co-founding a startup (and shutting it down) to scaling an Inc. 5000 business and building new teams within a global corporation. When partnering with owners of private businesses, John is often referred to as the "general contractor" of their business operations; a "quarterback" for the sports fans. He keeps an eye on the overall picture so that the team of subject matter experts (i.e. tax, legal, HR, accounting, banking, insurance, etc.) are complementing one another's work. This is especially needed when those functions are partially or completely outsourced.Beyond back office tune ups and orchestration, John works with business owners + their leadership team to identify, evaluate, and execute initiatives that grow profit. Whether entering new markets, right sizing product/service offerings, implementing cross sell and upsell initiatives, conducting strategic M&A, or firing unprofitable customers, John is a thought partner who translates ideas into action.Over his career, John has collaborated with and advised leaders of companies both large and small across a variety of industries, including: Ancestry.com, Angie’s List, AT&T, CarGurus, DoorDash, Google, Harley Davidson, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Sprint/T-Mobile, Walmart, WellNow Urgent Care, and more.John is relentless in his pursuit of providing the best solution for his clients. If he can't directly help you, he'll be both transparent and generous in connecting you with a trusted contact in his network who can.If you've read this far, that leaves one question: how can John help you & your business?

Managing Partner & Chief Operating OfficerBonsai Data Solutions Mar 2022 - Dec 2023Wheaton, Illinois, UsBonsai provides marketing effectiveness solutions by using data science, strategy, and analytics to help clients drive measurable growth.I joined Bonsai after seeing external CMOs with whom I partnered while working at Google struggle to measure the impact of their marketing portfolio across lines of business, sales channels, media channels, & digital walled gardens. Bonsai's approach of reconciling real business results (revenue and profit) with marketing activities resonated with me; it was clear that marketing leaders needed independent solutions that no single advertising platform could provide. The timing was perfect - Bonsai had achieved product market fit and was ready to scale up, which is what I was looking to get back into (helping companies scale their growth) after several years in a massive company.Notable accomplishments and experiences:• Scaled to achieve 100%+ annual revenue growth two years in a row by expanding the team from eight to 16 (2x) FTEs and managing onboarding of 10+ contractors globally.• Reduced reliance on the most significant customer by 27pp of total revenue over two years (while achieving YoY growth in that customer's revenue) by implementing revenue diversification initiatives to reshape the customer portfolio, with eight of the top ten accounts being new since 2021.• Enhanced employee benefits to increase recruiting competitiveness by adding 401K, HSA, disability, and life insurance plans along with raising employer contributions from 50% to 70%, all while achieving 2% net YoY savings.• Negotiated contracts to achieve savings: • 76% YoY reduction in card processing fees (0.015% of revenue) amidst 100%+ revenue growth • 7% cost reduction on the largest vendor contract; got exception for monthly vs annual paymentAfter laying a solid foundation in systems and processes for continued growth, I decided to step back from the COO role at the end of 2023 and remain an investor as the team elevated leaders from within. -
Head Of Engagement ManagersGoogle Sep 2020 - Feb 2022Mountain View, Ca, UsI led a team of Engagement Managers in Google's technical consulting group to partner with clients to design and deliver transformational technology solutions. A few of our projects included:• Enabling a nationwide used car reseller to increase car sales by 5% through digital campaign automation• Quantifying 30% incremental lift in daily active users from digital media investment in key growth markets for a global social media company• Lowering new user cost per acquisition by 35% for a global consumer SaaS company by commercializing research from DeepMind to automatically create localized voiceover audio for video ads in international markets using a text-to-speech APII began blazing a trail as the first and only Engagement Manager working with top U.S. customers through a pilot in 2018. In proving out the value of the role to both internal and external customers, I partnered with senior leaders and the go-to-market team to ultimately grow the team to 35+ people in North America. The team I directly managed oversaw a portfolio of customers worth $11B in annual advertising revenue. Furthermore, the customers with whom my team partnered were shown to be growing their investment with Google 2x faster than similar peers, due in large part to our ability to help the customer achieve their own business goals through custom technology solutions. -

Senior ConsultantTier1 Performance Solutions Sep 2013 - Apr 2015Covington, Ky, UsAs a Senior Consultant in the Chicago office, I contributed to the accelerated growth of the market. From operations leadership and project management to business development and consulting, I pitched in where I could to help our team and revenue grow.I was also asked to lead a company-wide initiative to select and implement a CRM tool. Using our best practices for change management, I wrote a project charter, identified key stakeholders, and built broad support internally for the initiative. Working closely with a distributed team, we successfully configured and rolled out Salesforce to the sales, marketing, and executive teams. After many years of discussing CRM, this was a major accomplishment for the company that I was proud to achieve with my colleagues. -
Co-Founder & CooRelify Jun 2012 - Aug 2013Relify was a startup focused on bringing Recommendations-as-a-Service (RaaS) to market through a highly scalable and flexible API platform model. Our vision was to extend Amazon/Netflix-style recommendations to every aspect of life. From grocery shopping to restaurant menus and beyond, we were driven to make everyday experiences more relevant on an individual level. It was an exciting and tough problem to tackle. We largely solved the technical aspects and had a working prototype at scale.Ultimately, our team learned a valuable lesson, as in our estimation, were a few years too early to market. Although consumer data privacy laws were non-existent and concerns with misinformation + echo chambers were nascent, we foresaw structural challenges that a pre-revenue startup was ill equipped to tackle. It's been fun to watch this space evolve in the years since, especially with the huge advancements in machine learning + artificial intelligence. The fact that many of the large public cloud providers now offer recommendation products feels validating that we were on the right path, albeit with bad timing.

ControllerTier1 Performance Solutions Apr 2011 - May 2012Covington, Ky, UsIn this position I led the finance and accounting functions. It was a period of growth for me professionally, as well as the firm. We grew revenue 40%+, just about doubled our number of people, and completed an acquisition. In this role I worked diligently to promote a service-centered approach vs. the typical "back office bureaucratic" perception of finance/accounting. I wish I could say we succeeded at living down that stereotype 100% of the time, but no one is perfect. At the highest level, we focused on creating value in two ways by:1) providing financial and operational support to our front line delivery team members, which trickled down to taking care of our ultimate customers2) supplying accurate, timely information to the executive team to support decision makingAt a granular level we did all the typical things you’d expect like cash management, A/P, A/R, payroll, revenue recognition, tax, audit, etc. However, I tried to always prioritize our resources in a way that best supported our value creation activities. Focusing on the right things and being efficient was especially important amidst the rapid growth the firm experienced. With no shortage of things to do, plus my brilliant colleagues, it was an incredible learning experience. As often happens in life, an opportunity unexpectedly presented itself – to be a co-founder in an Internet/SaaS startup. I resisted for many months until TiER1’s owners encouraged me to take the leap, and thus the Relify journey began. -
Associate ConsultantTier1 Performance Solutions Oct 2009 - Apr 2011Covington, Ky, UsI performed a variety of duties in this role, which allowed me to gain a broad exposure and better understanding of TiER1's entire business. This enabled me to develop and hone my operational, financial, and inter-personal skills, and ultimately grow into the role as Controller. Many of my responsibilities as Controller originated in this role, expanded over time, and carried over. There were some capacities I served in exclusively during my time as an Associate until additional team members were hired to handle these duties, including:• Recruiter - sourced candidates, reviewed resumes, conducted screenings, facilitated interviews, managed relationships with candidates and other recruiters• IT - implemented MSFT Office365 company-wide, administered Exchange and SharePoint, provided basic help desk type support -
