  • Lci Academy
    Head English Teacher/Coordinator
    Lci Academy Jun 2013 - Mar 2016
    Suwon, South Korea
I served as a teacher at a private school (hagwon) in the Yeongtong area of Suwon, South Korea. This position was very challenging as I had to be both knowledgeable on the wide variety of subjects that are offered at LCI Academy so as to teach at a high level, but it was also necessary for me to possess the ability to communicate, inspire trust and confidence and also motivate the students. One of the most important aspects of this position is that I must strive to understand the student's educational and emotional needs; each child is different, so it is paramount that I am able to recognise and respond to individual and cultural differences so as to employ different teaching methods accordingly that will consequently result in higher student achievement. This position demands that I be organised, dependable, patient, and creative at all times. I work with the other teachers here cooperatively and consider it important to communicate effectively with my director, support staff, parents, and other members of the community so I can deliver the best possible quality education to the children I teach.
  • Jianghan University
    English Teacher (Tefl)
    Jianghan University Jul 2012 - Jan 2013
    Wuhan, China
I served as a foreign expert at Jianghan University (Wuhan, China) and was responsible for a large number of students and classes - often each class approached the fifty student mark! Throughout my tenure there I displayed and developed skills in:• Public speaking: Naturally this is part and parcel of the job as I constantly had to be able to engage and interest each and every student in what was usually a very large class. I attempted to use humour and a range of different other methods to grip my students, fortunately this lead to a vast improvement in their abilities as no one felt the need to sleep in class anymore!• Time management: I had to stick to a relatively taxing schedule but also had to be prepared to be flexible as constant changes were very common. When it came to the close of the semester I had to organise and schedule exams for each and every student, which was made more difficult as it had to work around my own existing teaching schedule and the respective student's class schedules! • Inter-personal communication: It was necessary to work alongside all levels of the teaching staff and the university's management so that I provide the best education possible and ensure that I kept within expected rules and course guidelines.
