At Principal Financial Group I managed a diverse team of engineers working on solutions for the Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP). As the largest provider of ESOP programs in the United States I led my team in creating solutions to extend client functionality and meet government regulations. We had projects utilizing nearly all modern programing platforms. From COBOL and Mainframe DB2 to .NET and AWS. In this role my database expertise was utilized to work with modelers to design the supporting back end structures new features required.In addition to project work, I engaged with Mid and Senior Level leaders to determine future roadmaps and architecture decisions for our products.

In this role I partnered with the development staff for our 401(k) trading platform that I had previously held a Team Lead/DBA role. My focus on this team was to evaluate and integrate new features into our database platform, as well as work with the business to add and integrate new data structures to add new functionality to our product.During my time in this role we have started a migration from the SAP ASE platform to the Oracle Exadata platform. This has been a challenging project as we have over 10,000 stored procedures and more than 3,000 tables. All of which need to be converted from Transact SQL to PL/SQL. While the language is a technical hurdle, the greater challenges are altering how we structure our code, and to make accommodations for our heavy temp table use in SAP. We are still rather early in this process which we expect to be complete in late 2020.During our Exadata conversion our Business Unit was acquired by Principal Financial Group in 2019. This led us on embarking on a massive data transfer project. The process of moving many terabytes of data from one company to another in a highly regulated environment can be very daunting. Luckily for Principal Financial many of us within the Wells Fargo Data Team had experience doing this very task more than once in our careers. I also participated in our internal Innovation Sessions which allowed me to acquire 3 US Pending Patents, and two accepted US Patents.

As a team lead I spend much time working hands on with the dataservers as well as providing a supervisory role and providing direction and ensuring team goals are met. As a DBA, I manage all aspects of a multi-terabyte Production, Test, Development, and Disaster Recovery environments. My primary application, the WySTAR trading platform, is comprised of many internally developed applications in both client server and n-tier architectures connecting to multiple Sybase ASE Servers. This platform has 4 major releases per year, and over 25 minor releases. Another part of my role is the primary Sybase BCP plan administrator, this position entails creating detailed work plans and reference documents to work from in the case of a disaster. Additionally I was an integral part to an evaluation of Microsoft SQL Server as a possible platform to migrate to from Sybase. During this assessment, I worked closely with Microsoft personnel and internal resources. I work very closely with my team and our internal development staff to provide assistance in architecture, functionality, and performance & tuning. My significant projects include but are not limited to, acquisition data migrations, SAN design, big-endian to little-endian server migration, and numerous software releases that require significant database modifications. I created a Replication Architecture to deploy a read-only replicate that will still accept replicated data. I have also performed in a consulting capacity to the corporation’s largest clients. I have assisted in setup and installation as well as directing benchmarking operations. One of these clients was later acquired. I planned the data migration techniques, and was awarded the Wachovia CIO Project Success Award. My responsibilities have also included intrinsic management tasks including conflict management, employee performance review process, equipment procurement, staff expansion, and staff reduction.

Served as a volunteer on the Board of Directors and as the IT Director for a regional recreation and environmental club. I managed, designed and maintained the web site and discussion forum. This serves as the primary form of communication and promotion for the organization and generates hundreds of thousands of hits per month. This post has given me the opportunity to express my creativity and extend my IT skill set to include Wordpress, PHP, Google Webmaster Tools, and mySQL.

Architectural analysis, design and implementation of database solutions for Fortune 100 Clients with a concentration in financial services. I created custom data driven migration services, and custom human resources application services. My primary focus was analysis of large applications to make recommendations for change with issues of scalability and functionality. One of the applications I analyzed was the WySTAR trading platform, which I later went to work on exclusively for PFPC (Wells Fargo).

At Sybase I was given extensive training on every Sybase product, and established a financial services specialty. I worked on architecture solutions for several large banking institutions using Sybase ASE and Sybase iQ. My primary focus was managing the Compliance Data Warehouse for the Internal Revenue Service. I worked on creating custom Sybase IQ metadata solutions, EBCDIC data conversions, and supporting numerous data marts across the IRS and Department of Treasury footprint. During my time on the IRS project we won Best Practices Award from the Data Warehousing Institute.

Designed, developed, tested, and implemented Point of Sale network systems within the Table Service group. Utilized and tested Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Server 4.0 in multiple client server configurations and in conjunction with proprietary software and hardware. Provided on site customer support for major accounts, and assisted in problem resolution with high visibility clients.
