John is a dedicated blue-teamer and is driven to help develop defensive talent around the world. Through his years of experience as the SOC analyst and manager, he has real-world, first-hand knowledge of what it takes to defend an organization against advanced cyber-attacks and is eager to share these lessons with his students. As a SANS Sr. instructor and author of multiple SOC-centric SANS courses including SEC450: Blue Team Fundamentals and MGT551: Building and Leading Security Operations Centers, John specializes in helping teams perfect the tools and processes necessary for modern security operations. His focuses include threat hunting, use case development and organization, detection analytics and tuning, network security monitoring, SIEM, and applied threat intelligence.
