We provide fast and reliable connectivity between these organisations and their international partners, and will increasingly become more involved in adding our infrastructure and expertise to research projects and bids for funding that incorporate or work with big data and AI.

I returned to AUT to become Director of Interact and Manager, Industry Engagement in the University's Research and Innovation Office. Interact is a Centre of Excellence in technology development and transfer in the field of real time, big data-enabled decision support. This role aims to persuade the NZ Government to invest in data science and to then create a new Centre, with multiple partners from across NZ, that will develop, implement and apply new, real time data science and technologies to harness big data streams and flows to aid decision making across multiple sectors of society and the economy. I continued to manage sales of commercial research and development contracts for AUT, plus project manage the hardware, storage and interconnect aspects of the science data processor of the square kilometre array. These roles involved bringing together partners and clients from academia and industry, establishing partnerships and programmes, raising funds and facilitating the transfer of IP from R&D into industry and commerce to increase the economic impact of the outputs of AUT and its partners.

I was commissioned by the NZ Government, on a part time basis for 6 months, to advise NZ based organisations and companies on how to sell to the multinational Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio astronomical observatory project, now approaching its construction phase after 6 six years of pre-construction design work. This is a crucial time in the SKA project with procurement for the observatory construction commencing in all likelihood during 2018

We are delighted to announce that the new Director of NPL Northern England is Professor John Bancroft, who will be joining the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) as a joint appointment with the University of Huddersfield on 4 January 2016.NPL, supported by its partners, is creating a series of regional hubs across the UK. These hubs are part of a long-term commitment to deliver regional access to the UK's measurement capabilities, working alongside world-class science and innovation partners.The NPL Northern England hub will address the needs of companies in Northern England through a blend of accessible, industry-relevant collaborative research, products and services.NPL Northern England will initially comprise two existing centres coming together: NPL's testing and services laboratory (NPL Huddersfield) and the University of Huddersfield's Centre for Precision Technologies (CPT).

Having moved to NZ in April 2013 I worked to create collaboration and R&D partnerships between the UK (STFC) and NZ. Focussed mainly on astronomy and the Square Kilometre Array project (a 650M Euro multi-country project to design and build the world's biggest radio telescope that will generate multi-terabyte/second raw data flows and will need next generation HPC and network capability to work), I worked to keep NZ in the project by helping to develop the business case for positive economic impact. for the country.

After leading the successful business development effort to win £50M+ of investment into the Hartree Centre in 2011/2012 I was appointed Director for the Centre. This includes the Daresbury Research "Collaboratory", in association with IBM. Reporting to the Executive Director, Business and Innovation, the role was to work with stakeholders and partners to deliver a working and successful Hartree Centre in the shortest possible time.

This succeeded in getting me a position within the same county that I live in (for the first time in 9 years). I was responsible for business development for the Environmental Department. This role was aimed at generating R&D partnerships, incomew and economic impact.

I ran the export slaes and marketing for VG Quadruploes and the entire sales and marketing operation for VG Gas Analysis. This included running a network of agents and distributors around the world.

I ran the UK field sales team and the telesales operation. Much of the business of JM is with ongoing customers and I set up the co-ordination of the sales team's activities with the telesales team to proactively manage accounts, especially those dependent on precious metals and their price fluctuations. This resulted in significant improvement in market share as lowering prices were used to trigger additional orders.
