After working 8 years in the Non-Profit field doing Troop Support (VFW) and 7 years in the Anti-Drug community (DDR) and 5 years as an Inner City School Teacher(KCK), and over 30 years of military service (MO National Guard) I have been able to develop several useful skills that can transfer to almost any field. Multitasking? Did you ever try successfully planning, 6 different speaking events at 4 different schools on the same day (DDR). Or keeping track of 34 different grant event applications from multiple places all in different stages of processing (VFW)?Communication Skills? Ever try to convince a teacher or principal that you were trained, qualified, and relevant enough to enter “their school” and teach “their students”. If you’re not positive, outgoing, personable and high energy you won’t be asked back! (DDR) Of course a Bachelor’s degree in Education and 5 years teaching experience doesn’t hurt either (KCK). Have I worked with diverse populations? Am I flexible? Try adapting your message for an area that covered 11 counties and included rural/farm, industrial/city, middle-class/suburban, and Inner-city/poverty from ages 5-adult (DDR). What about teamwork and teambuilding? I specialized in teaching teamwork to inner-city elementary students. I was so successful that other teachers in the district adopted my activities for their own use (KCK). I even presented to other teachers from across Kansas on the topic.
Listed skills include Community Outreach, Leadership, Training, Nonprofits, and 34 others.
