SEMH Team Leader | Trainee Counsellor | Photographer | TutorSince 2018 I have been working as a Mentor and Skills Coach for the Government of Jersey programme, Skills Jersey. In my role I work with anywhere between 20 and 30 clients at a given time, some of whom I see at least once a week, though often when necessary can see individuals multiple times over the course of several days.My work with my clients focuses on a wide variety of personal development challenges. From helping school leavers navigate the world of work and apprenticeships, to coaching teenagers with profound learning difficulties, and also supporting children going through the Justice system due to the presence of the toxic trio.In so many ways it is pertinent to describe my role as 'counselling lite', in as much as I work in a one-on-one capacity with vulnerable persons who need a place to vent and talk about challenging issues. I've worked with survivors of sexual abuse, persons dealing with suicidal ideation, eating disorders and living in abject poverty - to name a few. My background in counselling studies provided me a solid foundation from which to build and grow my mental health skillset. In 2020 I completed my Coaching, Mentoring and CBT qualifications, proceeding to do an extended diploma in CBT the following year.As of March, 2024 I have begun chipping away at my 100 hours of counselling placement to secure my Level 4 Counselling Qualification.Outside of my day job I work as a freelance photographer and creative tutor. I've been working in the creative industry since 2010. I also host a mental health and career conversation podcast called, I'm Glad You Exist.

Photographer, Retoucher, OwnerJohn Liot Photography Mar 2010 - PresentAll manner of photographic work I have undertook under my name with all the value that I attach to it.From commissioned portraits to landscape print sales, the variety of my work has been the spice of my career as a photographer. It's been a goal of mine to be proficient and explorative with all genres and areas of photography. Though my emphasis began, and has remained focused on faces, it has always existed that the challenge and lessons attached to shooting new subject matters and presenting different styles of photography have kept me humble and a student of the industry.

Marketing And Public Relations Manager/ Graphic Designer/ Social Media Manager/In House PhotographerJacks Clothing/ Chocolate-Express Mar 2017 - Dec 2017St Helier, JerseyThis was an engaging and dynamic role within a company that handled two separate entities; a clothing store (Jacks Clothing) and a Leonidas chain chocolate shop (Chocolate-Express).The role required me to handle the back-end of a very profitable and successful Amazon store as well as site-wizard hosted website. I dealt with everything from coding to customer questions. I brought my keen photography eye to the job and moved the company away from relying on stock imagery (for Chocolate-Express) from the parent company (Leonidas) and instead took it upon myself to create our own original imagery with the intention to separate our brand identity from other similar chocolate shops.I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for The Central Market Co., my reason for leaving was because my commitment to my photography work meant I wasn't able to balance the two areas comfortably - having to turn down profitable photography work because I was within contracted hours to this job. I made the decision to invest time in the job and industry I felt was best utilising my skillset and character to its fullest effect.

Freelance PhotojournalistCartel Photos Sep 2012 - Jul 2015Falmouth, CornwallCartel Photos is a press photography agency located in scenic Falmouth, on the south coast of the UK.It was whilst at Cartel Photos I became proficient in industry standards of press photography. All areas from live shooting with VIP clients, to deadlined uploads with appropriated metadata attached. Easily my most valuable work experience came from my years with Cartel Photos and it is from those years that I remain developing skills and progressing in proficiency within the world of photography.I worked several jobs whilst with the company. Foremost I was a press photographer; I would attend events or location-based photoshoots, capture images and upload them to the Cartel Photos database within a deadline allocated time. I would also work as a director, co-ordinating shoots with clients and picture editors to reach a desired brief and facilitate the capture of high-end photographic materials. I also spent time as a technician, offering advice and insight into technical aspects of photoshoots, (which lights would be necessary for specific shoots, which gear was required for others).Cartel Photos allowed me to grow as an independent contractor whilst also allowing me to develop my team-based skills as a part of a fast-paced and interactive group of creatives. I became comfortable with traveling to shoots far outside of Falmouth; working by myself and understanding the reality of being your own boss and the level of dedication you need to your craft to create professional and high-tier work consistently. Conversely, I also had ample experience working as part of a press and editorial team in which team work was extremely valuable and necessary to completing a large-scale job and impressing the client.
