I led the transformation of Imagr from a technology company to a product company, with a focus on using its sophisticated computer vision to solve customers' and end-users' problems. This included agile transformation, introducing UX design, product ownership, and a product strategy that embraced the enterprise nature of our customers (supermarkets), and the very non-enterprise nature of our end users (shoppers).

Cross-product product person, with a deep technical background. I worked with design, engineering, architecture, sales, strategy and product managers to join the dots and keep a rapidly growing team aligned on the same vision and strategy.My focus areas were: Data-as-an-asset, machine learning, research, third horizon investments, and internal startups.

Building cool new things for our awesome accounting and bookkeeping partners – especially ways to save them time and to become trusted advisors for their customers. I brought two of our key acquisitions in-house and kicked off the strategy work to integrate and transform them into what is now Xero HQ.

Making Xero Workpapers the best compilation tool for our accountant and bookkeeper partners, and WorkflowMax the best time and cost management system for our small-to-medium business customers.

I co-founded Xero's Auckland development office and led a rapidly growing team responsible for many of our core products - particularly Xero Personal. As the technical lead I kept our product teams focused on scale, quality and performance. I oversaw each product's architecture and ensured it aligned with Xero's own evolving platform architecture. This role required extensive communication, leadership and plenty of pragmatic decision making.

Navitas was a Microsoft partner specialising in complex application design and development with a focus on web technologies. Zephyr Software was a joint venture between Navitas and Zephyr Consulting - combining Navitas's technical skills with their offerings in all the other parts of IT projects. Through the Zephyr partnership I gained extensive knowledge of the energy sector - particular energy retail, metering and billing.

Utilyx is as an online platform to allow large commercial energy buyers in the United Kingdom to compare competing bids from power companies on a like for like basis. I ran the infrastructure and helped develop software to model all of the electricity industry’s various tariffs, distribution charges and government levies and apply it to historical usage data from thousands of smart meters. During the .com boom, Advantage Group set up ADV E-Commerce and acquired Glazier Systems. My role grew from analysis and development to include the designing and managing the infrastructure necessary to serve our products.

Glazier Systems’ Auckland office was established to focus on the then-new area of web application development. We were encouraged to look after the whole customer relationship rather than just 'doing the dev'. Glazier was acquired by the Advantage Group and has since transformed into Intergen. An excellent first job where I was thrown in at the deep end with web development, client management, and the company's core IT all at once.

This was a student project where teams of four spent the year designing and building a software project for an Auckland sponsor organisation. We built a project management system for Babcock NZ on the Devonport Navy Base to help them cost their ship repair projects.
