One of California’s top lawyers, John Manly remains actively involved as a civil authority on the rash of clergy sexual abuse cases recently publicized in the United States and abroad. A graduate of The University of Southern California with an undergraduate degree in international relations, John Manly received his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law. Before entering private practice, John Manly worked as a Law Clerk for the General Counsel of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington, DC, as well as in the Navy Reserve as an Intelligence Officer.John Manly leads a team of consultants and experts unmatched in expertise on matters of men and women sexually abused as children. With more than 500 clients around the globe, John Manly often settles child abuse cases for monetary civil awards which are higher than the average. John Manly attributes the success of his team to their in-depth knowledge of Catholic institutions. Amy Berg's Academy Award nominated 2006 documentary, Deliver Us From Evil, features John Manly’s high profile role in the case against Priest Oliver O'Grady, and the church officials who were complicit in O'Grady’s continuing sexual predation over the years. Highly involved in another prominent case, John Manly pursued The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange for its involvement in a sex scandal, which resulted in a $100 million settlement against the Diocese. This particular case stemmed from DiMaria v. Harris, a 2001 finding against the Diocese of Orange and a landmark case which instigated many of the Catholic Church sex-abuse cases that followed. A member of the California, New York, Oregon, Arizona, and Alaska Bar Associations, John Manly also holds admittance to practice in several district federal courts.
